Name the first and the last. Let’s start with vhs tapes of theatrical releases. What was the first movie released in that format, and what was the last? ---

The last Hollywood film to be released on VHS was [A History of Violence](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_History_of_Violence#Release) in 2006. I’d be surprised if there weren’t later releases overeseas though. ---

The first movie released on VHS was a Korean movie, _The Young Teacher_, in 1976. The first American movies released on VHS were _The Sound of Music_, _Patton_, and _MASH_ in 1977. _Twister_ was the first movie released on DVD, in 1997. The first movies released on Blu-Ray were _50 First Dates, The Fifth Element, Hitch, House of Flying Daggers, Underworld: Evolution, xXx_, and _The Terminator_ in 2006. ---
