Was he in an archery duel? Did one feather fall off one of his arrows causing him to lose? (Note, having an arrow with three feathers on it sticking out of him would have required a YES to the question about the arrow with two feathers. One’s a subset of the other.) ---

Non-serious answer: The man was depressed. The murderer knew this and gave him a feather. The victim felt “down” and killed himself 🙂 ---

Was the feather attached to anything prior to the murderer leaving it? Is the murderer a person? A bird? Is the type (from what type of bird) of feather important? Is it a pronothenary warbler feather? ---
