I was kind of wondering that myself, Wolfman. I left my programming job (voluntarily) last January, and have concentrated on my new career since then so I don’t really know how the high tech industry was going. I, too, know a LOT of people who have trouble getting jobs after being laid off. I wasn’t gonna mention it on this thread, but since you did, I have to agree with you. Getting a coding job ain’t what it used to be 5 years ago!

Thanks for confirming my worst fears **Reuben**. In fact, you’ve made things worse. I usually have enough to worry about in the relatively near future, but now that you point it out, I probably will die broke and alone. I found things were just fine until I graduated from college. I discovered there were no jobs for me and freaked out, but I recovered by traveling and partying for a few years. Then my “quarter life crisis” made me think I needing to be doing something more respectable. What was I thinking? I used to be so happy, and I exchanged it for a life of constant work.

**Shirley** , I agree that TV news is not worth watching, but what about newspapers? I think it’s irresponsible to just ignore what’s going on around you. My work keeps me keeps me more than sufficiently aware of the misery in the world, so I don’t feel bad that I can hardly bear to read the newspaper anymore.
