# Am I a "shallow asshole" for not wanting to date fat women?

Anyhoo:

**I do not find fat people attractive, and thus am unlikely to ever date one.** → not shallow

**Fat people are unattractive, and only desperate people would want to date one.** → shallow

See the difference?

I wouldn’t say you were shallow if you weren’t attracted to fat women. However, I may change my view if you dated a woman for a while, fell in love, and then stopped seeing her because she gained weight.

I’m not sure why the difference. I guess I would expect that after a relationship moves beyond a certain point, you should be attracted to someone for more than their physical characteristics.

Let’s face it, we all age. I may not be attracted to 80-year-old men now, but I would hope that if I met someone and settled down with him, I wouldn’t stop being attracted to him as the years go by.
