I’m sorry your pregnancy hasn’t been one that you will look back on fondly. I was lucky that, although I had morning sickness with all of them (the first was the worse), I was pretty well done with it by the end of the third month (with the first, not that long with the rest). I also had terrible headaches for a while with the first.
But none of that stuff lasted the whole time and I was lucky that I did have good memories of all my pregnancies. I was pregnant at 40 with my last one and that was a very easy pregnancy.
I had to be induced with my last three. I did go into labor on my own with my now-21-year-old but the labor moved so slowly, and I was so miserable because he was posterior (back labor! thank whoever for epidurals!), they did put me on a drip to get things moving. It still took forever, it seemed!
With boy #4 (now almost 20), he was 10 days overdue when they induced him. Once they got the labor going, he came really quickly - the nurses ended up delivering him because the doctor didn’t get there quick enough. No time even for an epidural! He weighed 9 1/2 pounds.
Boy #5 was also induced at 10 days overdue. I don’t remember it being horrendous except that my husband (now ex) was being a jerk and acted like I was deliberately interfering with his life.
Anyway, I wouldn’t be concerned that an induction has to be awful. I didn’t find it so; in fact, it was preferable to a never-ending pregnancy (as much as I enjoyed being pregnant, I was always glad to have it over).
I was induced with the second and third baby. Second was two weeks late (and has been late to pretty much everything since). Since I had had back labor with the first baby, I was determined to get off my back with this one, and spent some time with the squat bar they can install at the foot of your bed. Labor was really fast and not that bad. Third one had to be induced two weeks early because he was getting too big, and again, I did not lay down, and things went quickly and smoothly. Each one about 5 hours compared with 24 with the first natural labor.
Since you are a day or two away from full term, I am going to say yes, yes you are going to go into labour soon.
These hot, sticky days must be really enjoyable for you right now!
My son didn’t drop until I was in labor - he stayed high and with his butt right in my ribs the whole time, the little twerp!
He came on the early side of the window, though - 38w2d. My blood pressure was up, so my midwife stripped my membranes a couple of days before he was born. She also discovered that I was dilated to 5 cm! I lost my mucus plug the next day, and the night after that I went into labor.
I had a fantastic labor - I wouldn’t change a thing! So know that not everyone has a horror story.
If you want, you can read the whole story here.
Good luck, and congrats!
Well, I had a check up and my cervix is soft, but not dilated, so I have a way to go.
I’ve also discovered that his head is, in fact, down based on the fact that she shoved her entire paw up my hoo-hoo and felt it.
Wow, stargazer. Thank you so much for sharing your link. Your birth story is what I wish I had had for my little one. I will most definitely be going with a mid-wife as opposed to an ob for my next birth. Everything seems to be so much calmer.
