# Am I missing a setting? #Straightdope

Ok, am I missing a setting, or should I be able to login with just IRC server [irc.fathom.org](http://irc.fathom.org) and port 6667, no group specified, no password (currently trying to get mIRC set up since I’m having so much fun on here I decided to try chatting with ya out.)

I keep getting connection refused. Does this indicate the maximum number of users are already using the server, I have mistyped a setting or the server’s down?
