Am I the only Doper that doesn't rent DVDs?

I wish there was something comparable to Netflix here in Germany. I usually end up buying the DVDs I want. Like yesterday I ordered Bullitt, which would probably take a couple years until it turns up as a rental DVD anywhere close.
Sometimes I even have to have a DVD shipped from the US, since some movies are not out here on DVD yet or won’t be for a couple months.
With a bad TV, videotapes might get pretty close to DVDs, but the few rental tapes I got were horrible. Plus they are often not available in widescreen-format.

I liked NetFlix - for awhile. Then I started to realize that it was taking a week or more for the DVD turnaround, meaning I was getting less films per month. Then I tried to get series Queer As Folk…disc 2, 3, 4 and 5 were available, but not number 1. So while I was waiting, nothing showed up.
Then there was the time a DVD supposedly got lost, and then mysteriously showed up at their warehouse 5 weeks later.
I finally dropped them.
I won’t say I will NEVER go back, but for the price of NetFlix, I upgraded my basic cable to digital and added 200 channels. A lot of the films I was trying to get through NetFlix have recently been on Sundance or IFC channel.

Back to the OP…I haven’t heard anybody mention the fact that now you can get DVD’s FREE from your local library…at least you can in Las Vegas…just check them out like a book. Wouldn’t it be wiser to do this before you buy them?
