# Am I the only one who doesn't give a damn about William and Kate?

Brit - don’t care - wish I wasn’t paying for it - wish I could get out of town for the occasion, because yet again despite paying through the nose to live in this bloody city, it’s not actually going to be possible for me to move out of my front door for all the gawking halfwits and unnecessary police (this happens _all the time_ - they just block off the whole centre of town for the One Legged Scottish Cyclists Against Badgers rally and expect me to stay at home until it’s time for me to go back to work).
Also… I don’t get an extra day off. They’ve arranged my term dates so that ALL the bank holidays fall in my Easter holidays. I am unimpressed by the whole thing.
When you ask me about the Olympics, I’ll repeat the first paragraph. Especially the bit about paying for it.

People keep asking me in all seriousness if I’m going to go down and try and get a glimpse of them on the day and it’s all I can do not to giggle at the thought of that kind of time waster. Happy enough for the 4 day weekend tho.

My first thought on reading the OP was “Who?”. Then I remembered I’d heard something about Prince William getting married, so I suppose Kate must be the princess-to-be. At least, I think that’s what the OP is referring to.

Shortly after Princess Di died I was in Germany and had lots of people expressing their condolences. There were even quite a few when Princess Margaret died.

I don’t have that much interest family but the Windsors seem like a much higher grade of people than their counterparts in America, the Kennedy family. Chuck hasn’t murderd anybody like Teddy did. Anne didn’t wiretap a Nobel Peace winner like Bobby did to Martin Luther King. Liz hasn’t stolen any elections with the help of the mafia like Jack did. I don’t know of any who have had rape trials like William Kennedy Smith (to be fair he was acquitted but you how much his money helped. Plus at the time I knew a cop who watched the trial and he couldn’t get over how inept the prosecutor was, deliberately antagonizing the jury according to him).
Kate is nice looking. If a sex tape emerges of her, I’ll buy it. William served in the military, which is more than you can say for the Dubya twins (betcha that Obama’s kids won’t either).

I’m almost tempted to offer the Brits a trade. We get William and Kate. They can have the Duggars. As long as the royals don’t go plan to singlehandedly attempting to over populate the planet I don’t mind them. Especially when it’s not my tax dollars financing their wedding.

If there is a real-life equivalent of ‘tl;dr’ it would be this very issue. I don’t care that two people I will never meet are getting married. After a while the newsstand articles and other press just come off background noise.
I think that the whole monarchy oughta go but at the very least can we focus on things that matter instead of things that don’t? is that really too much to ask?

So, the two threads on the front page of Cafe Society about this marriage were both started by people don’t care. That’s just weird. I wish them well but I don’t care either and it’s easy enough to avoid hearing/thinking about it, except when people who don’t give a shit are starting threads and bitching about it.
