I’m confused - should I be posting here or to the [other thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=209406&perpage=40&pagenumber=4)? Both have been active lately. Straight male here. My username gives it away if you understand its deep subtle meaning. Even if it isn’t capitalized. 🙂 Not sure there’s any such thing as a neutral username though, for me at least if it’s something mundane (or totally off the wall wierd) I usually think male and if it sounds exotic and/or has lots of vowels it sounds feminine. But when in doubt we should have a **G** ender **Neu** tral **P** ronoun, Gneup. I’d say **Atrael** is male. How’s my powers of deduction - did I hit the mark? ---

The **Kid** got this one right. I’ve been surprised by many usernames; I usually assume a poster is male unless there are specific clues in the posts or the name itself. But that’s just lazy thinking. ---

Got burned by wring. Was certain wring was male. She isn’t. After that, I try to keep my assumptions (age, gender, sexual orientation, politics, income, religion, marital status, number of children, nationality, profession, race or hair color or the all important “what is your cup size”) down to a minimum until they are revealed - then the information my stick, or I may completely forget. When the information is pertinent to the conversation, it tends to be revealed. Is gender really any more important than age? Or politics? (myself - 37, female, straight (mostly), liberal (on the non-loopy end), well off, UU, Married, 2, American, System Analyst, white, and brunette (but I highlight red), and finally, its out here, but you’ll need to search it up yourself if you are that darn interested).
