I have a lot of grammar pet peeves, too many to list. But the one that comes immediately to my head is “_dieing_,” as in the _ing_ form of “to die.” Damnit, it’s spelled D-Y-I-N-G. “But,” I hear you ask, "Wouldn’t that be the _ing_ form of the word “to dye?” No. According to [dictionary.com](http://www.dictionary.com/), dye + ing comes out to “dyeing.” I don’t really mind if you spell “dyeing” as “dying” (I was guilty of this for a while also), but “dieing” just looks stupid. Now excuse me, I’ve got to peel a ptoatoe. ---

I think threads like this are cathartic. You need to get it out, dammit! I am also the last person to be picking spelling apart. I know I make lots of errors. But I don’t want to keep on ignorantly making them, so threads like this (which point out the error without personally pointing out the person who makes the error) is a good thing. No, it’s not the end of the world if you spell it wrong, and no, it does not detract from the message someone is trying to convey. But they have _dictionaries_ for a reason - because there is a right way and a wrong way to spell something.
