3D always makes more money than 2D, regardless of quality.
_The Prince of Egypt_ was 2D and made $218,613,188.
_The Ten Commandments_ was 3D (and God awful) and made less than $1 million.

I’m just talking about animation.

So am I. The reason that _The Ten Commandments_ failed in large part was because of the low quality 3D animation. It was disturbing.

Are you talking about the 1956 film, or is there some kind of Pixar remake I don’t know about?

Ok, now that I look at the RT entry, I vaguely remember something about it. The exception that proves the rule I guess – and of course, the movies were released almost ten years apart. _Prince of Egypt_ was one of the last big 2D Disney epics.
I don’t understand the 3D transformation though. Why not just put out a 2D animated film in the same style? I don’t think the 3D adds anything, at least not based on the trailer. The choice seems more weird than anything.
3D is cheaper (by a smidge) and can be done in the USA. Hand-drawn animation has to be done in Korea nowadays to be affordable. Outsourcing brings management difficulties and costs.

It might be as awesome as the _Droids_ and _Ewoks_ series, right? We can only hope…

So…is it a re-telling of the 2D Clone Wars cartoon Cartoon Network already aired a few years ago, or is it filling in yet even _more_ gaps?

As I recall, the first Clone Wars series took place right after episode II, and the second one took place right before episode III. So does this take place between the first and second series?
One reason. Anyone. Is the story worthwhile? Some bullsht about Jabba the Hutt’s son being kidnapped?
Son? You mean Jabba the Hut has sex? Oh, ick! Seriously, mega-ick!

> [@](#):

That train left the station, burned down, fell over and sank into the swamp when we found out that Annikin built C3PO.
Ironically, the animation in this trailer reminded me of a poorer knock-off of earlier Dreamworks 3D animation (as in Ice Age) which was no great shakes itself. Clunky wood-carving hair doesn’t do much for me.
_Ice Age_ was by Blue Sky Studios, not Dreamworks.

I really like the _Ice Age_ stylisation, but the _Clone Wars_ style looks decidedly dirty, which I find unpleasant to look at. It’ll probably be fine in context, though.
