It is always interesting to see how people react to the same thing. Other than some type-A intensity to win even when that isn’t particularly important I didn’t really see anything at all to suggest that Cindy is a bad person or otherwise unpleasant.

IIRC, we see Marcus at the typewriter – he notices there’s no “1” and expresses befuddlement. Then we never see him again until the finish line.

I think you’re reading a lot into a very little.

Was there some reason the pilot and co-pilot couldn’t switch? I think after 4 or 5 times veering off the runway and crashing into an oil tanker (ok, that’s what I wouldn’t liked the simulator to do, but it didn’t happen that way) I would’ve said “ok, let me take a shot.”

Didn’t you think the A+/C student thing was a bit ugly, as well as being pretty markedly overstated? I sure saw little evdience all season to suggest that they were such vastly superior racers.

The A+/C thing didn’t bother me at all. Not sure what would be ugly about it.

I also saw little evidence that they were superior racers. Though they were competent. But that is true almost every season. Too much of the game is pure chance for underlying physical/mental talent to reliably rise to the top.

Cindy seems like an Asian stereotype. Super demanding parents and all. $100 says she plays violin.

Last night I realized that I didn’t know the names of Team Who. That’s how exciting they were.

Was hoping we could escape the season without Team Dude Jesus mentioning God. No such luck.

I’ve seen every amazing race season so far. This one wasn’t the strongest.

Last night, The Margaret Mitchell House is the very first link you get when you google “atlanta dump former residence.” A TAR recap knocked it out of the top spot today.

> That’s not a bad idea. Kinda breaks with TAR tradition, though; the teams always stick together, or have one member just waiting for the other. I was kind of expecting multiple Roadblocks this episode, one for each player, since all the teams were required to be at 6 and 6 in the previous leg.

It wasn’t clear if it was an enforced thing, but I noticed that the person who didn’t do the Roadblock went up on the wall. We didn’t get to see Amani up there to confirm. My guess is it’s more likely the teams did that of their own accord, to share the tasks. And technically they were working together, so it wasn’t a solo like a Roadblock.

I don’t know if it was entirely intentional, but it seems more devious that “The Dump” was apparently a former Home Depot. That’s the sort of thing that makes you think it doesn’t _quite_ fit the clue but then again it might.

If they were going to do a _Gone With The Wind_ theme challenge, I wish they could have led a horse through a burning of Atlanta. (simulated, of course).

Or “birth’n a baby”. making sure to put a knife under the bed.

how many words did they have to type? About 20? and the challenge was to know that a lower case “l” was used for the #1?

IMO, that was about as lame of a task that there could possibly be.

The fact that Ernie and whichever one that did the challenge from Team Dating both messed up at least once says otherwise.

We’ve been over this before. The delays aren’t from football, they’re from 60 Minutes. And even if the delays were from football, football has much higher ratings than TAR so it isn’t a matter of not having the balls, it’s a matter of the network guy not being a fucking moron who cuts off the cash cow to run the niche programming.

Cutting off the game to run Heidi was an example of not having balls.

What was the penalty for messing, getting another piece of paper and redoing?

Once you know the the “L” can be a “1”, it should take 3 minutes tops, if you type via the hunt and peck.

And figuring the “L” can be a “1” should take 5 minutes tops,

the task was edited for more drama than any took place. The hardest part of the task was finding the place. the task itself was trivial.

It was like learning three different dance routines.

I did find myself wondering why all the women were automatically copilots.

Also, what was Marcus doing wrong? He appeared to land fine, but then lose control on the ground. I know that aircraft require a very light touch–maybe he was trying to drive it like a car once it was on the ground.

I am not a pilot, but I did play a lot of Pilotwings 64.

It looked to me like the others were coming in with the nose slightly up, allowing for the rear wheels to touchdown first before lowering the nose, making for a slower and gentle landing.

Marcus seemed to be coming in nose down, which means he was travelling faster, and I think it might crease the stability of the front-end when the rear wheels touch-down afterward, which would throw him off course. He then seemed to be over-compensating, which is why he kept going way off-course.

Of course, this is all a WAG.

That’s exactly what he was doing. He’d land, be slightly askew and then overcorrect right into the terminal.

And I know there wasn’t a terminal in the simulator, but it was funnier in my head to think of it that way.

He was hitting the ground wheels-first, but they looked like pretty solid touchdowns[sup]1[/sup], to say the least. But he’d be at such an angle to the centerline that he couldn’t stay on the runway.

I suspect that the problems started while they were still in the air, as it were. You get a little bit off line and over correct, then over correct from that, and you’re not coming in straight. I’ve heard pilots advised to keep their eyes on the far end of the runway, not the near end. It’s like threading two needles; you have to pass through the first one in such a way that you’ll pass through the second, too.

Not sure how you steer a Learjet on the ground. Smaller planes use the rudder pedals to steer the nosewheel, and you press with your toes on either foot to apply the brakes on that side. During the practice, the instructor said the first thing they were going to learn was how to steer on the ground. In one shot, it looked like Marcus got things under control on the runway, but missed the turn onto the taxiway. I suspect part of the task was to actually clear the runway after landing. You sit almost over the nosewheel, so compared to a car you feel as if you’re driving past something before you start to turn. I had a Volkswagen bus that was like that.

1. Damn, you just can’t avoid the football metaphors with this guy.
