> I had been rooting for the moms but I was a little put off by their attitudes in the taxi. I know that they are frustrated and I know that the taxi driver didn’t do them any favors, but yelling at him, then talking about him (unless that was a voiceover?) when he’s in his own country speaking the language of his country (unless he was an immigrant to Egypt) and they are the ones who, if there is a problem in communication, have the problem.
>
> Like I said, I know they had to have been frustrated, but I wanted a bit more grace under fire.

Believe me, I was all ready to hate on the Moms for that, but I was under the impression that they specifically said “Old Airport” to the driver, who repeated back to them “old, old, yes” in English as if he understood full well where they needed to go. Thus, the frustration when they ended up at the NEW airport. I’d have been upset too. And while I do agree that the Moms yelling at the driver isn’t going to do them much good, it was a damn sight better than Chip shrieking, “SPEAK ENGLISH!” at the driver in Korea. 😃

Put me in the corner with the people who love watching Charla and Mirna. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want them to actually _win_, I just think that they’re absolutely making this show worth watching. While I like Chip/Kim and the Bowling Moms, I hate almost everyone else…I find them to be either insufferably snotty or too stupid to live. I acknowledge that Mirna can be obnoxious, but she’s obnoxious in a different way (at least for me) than teams like the Pizza Bros and the Blue Lagoon team.

I read this and thought, “I don’t remember them being in Korea! Did I miss a week?!!” and then I realized you were talking about a previous season! Wow, I’m easily confused by the name Chip. 😃

“I’m dying, Charla! I can’t do this! Why is everyone else finding their scarab before us?” I’m back to hating them, although really only the tall one. The whole business with the cab was ridiculous. I loved Chip and Kim’s reaction to Egypt, although “this is our homeland” mean Chip probably doesn’t know much about where slaves where taken. I’m glad to be rid of the brothers, although I thought Lance was very gracious. I was surprised that no one seemed to know what a scarab is. WUWT? I’ve known about scarabs since at least Jr. High. I was glad the moms are still in it. I have to wonder how they caught that plane, too. Although I would imagine that flight delays are probably at least as common in Egypt as they are here. Particularly with a small charter airline. Overall a good ep. Right now I want Chip and Kim to win, with the moms coming in second.

[QUOTE=StGermainI loved Chip and Kim’s reaction to Egypt, although “this is our homeland” mean Chip probably doesn’t know much about where slaves where taken. [/QUOTE]

I’m pretty sure that Chip was referring to the Nile Valley being the “cradle of civilization”, not that he thought slaves necessarily came from Egypt. I think he even made a more direct reference to it on last week’s show when they first arrived.

IIRC, the time shown for the departure ended up being 1:30ish (and the arrival 2:30ish)…so they could have dallied a couple more hours and made the flight.

I was wondering why people are dismayed that Kim doesn’t do more of the roadblocks and stuff. I mean, Chip doesn’t seem to mind. It seems as if he’s the type that would just as soon do it himself because he knows he’ll get it done. I also thought it was funny that when they read “keen eye sight and patience” they both quickly agreed it should be Kim.

The [Leaderboard](http://www.cbs.com/primetime/amazing_race5/route/leaderb.shtml) gets changed week to week so as not to give away where the non-elim rounds are. However, they are going to have to have more than one non-elim round back to back in order to leave enoughtime to whittle it down to three teams for the last tow episodes (unless they’re trying to stir the pot by having four teams at the end).

Speaking of the leaderboard:

**Colin/Christie** : They are beginning to grate. Colin is a great moment-by-moment strategist, but he is otherwise a :wally, and his way of dealing with it is to try to sound confident.

“Jesus is the Prodigal Son!” “A scabbard is a sword!” “We need to go this way!” “You’re not helping matters, Christie!”

And Christie is just a tool, I’m sorry.

**Chip/Kim** : This team projects a constant, honest gratitude for their good fortune. They occasionally step on other teams’ toes, but then strive to make up for it. Chip has shown not one bit of on-camera resentment over the fact that he’s done all the roadblocks, but Kim still feels compelled to step up to the plate.

What’s not to love?

**Kami/Karli** : These two are just a couple of dim bulbs, as it turns out: “We don’t know if we understand the clues…” I don’t know if it’s the fact that twins freak me out, or if it’s the fact that until this week, they’ve always been lost in the middle back of the pack, but this team has otherwise made little or no impression on me.

**Team Blue Lagoon** : Every time I hear Brandon implore the heaven’s above, I think: “Dude! I’m not even a Christian, but even I’ve read the passage where Jesus says those who wish to been praying in public already have their reward.”

I also love his inept attempts at using other team’s help, then ditching them. I don’t think it’s ever gotten them more than a couple of minutes ahead.

I made a concerted effort to distinguish Christie and Nicole this week. Other than Christie being slightly taller and having a slightly sharper jaw line, they are identical, which leads to the startling possibility:

What if they are sisters? Perhaps they have a pact that if one of their teams wins, they will murder Colin and Brandon and keep the million for themselves.

**Mirna/Charla** : I found myself thinking this week, “How does Mirna imagine she can even begin to get off casting such wild, baseless assertions against her opponents?” Then I remembered: she’s a lawyer.

**Linda/Karen** : Go Moms! I wasn’t home Tuesday night and had to tape AR. As I was scanning the tape to find the beginning, I catch a glimpse of Team Shine-O Ball-O discovering they are at the wrong airport, and thought: “Oh no! This is from a couple of weeks ago! It didn’t record over it!”

Then I watched, waiting for the tape to cut out, leaving me to think of how to convince my wife we need to stay home on Saturday night, when I realized they got left at the wrong airport AGAIN. No surpirse the plane left hours late. We’re talking about domestic air travel in EGYPT, people.

I wondered about the suddenly cured ankle twist, but then I realized: they’re bowlers, how weak can their ankles be? Glad to see it was only minor.

**Marshall/Lance** : How good is it that this team has been eliminated? Let us count the ways:

[ol]
[li]Marshall can get those knees looked at.[/li][li]They never have to spend any more time “The World Outside the US”, a place they obviously hate.[/li][li]They never have to look at Mirna, non-white foreigners on their native soil, or the women drivers on the other teams again.[/li][li]WE never have to look at, or listen to THEM again.[/li][/ol]

I’m kinda split…on one hand, I felt bad for Marshall with the knees in agony. On the other hand, I’m also tired of there being people that are chosen to be contestants on this show that are just physically incapable of completing it. I mean…have you never seen an episode before, and somehow don’t realize that there is a hell of a lot of walking/climbing/running involved with it? While injuries that happen during the race are one thing, if you had bad knees, why did you try and apply for the race??? And why the hell did they pick you?

I don’t remember if it was this week’s episode, or the preview’s from next week that showed Mirna saying someone had assulted her? I thought that was a bit strong a word for what they showed happening. It looks to me like she’s trying to put all these words in there, so in case something doesn’t go her way, she can sue because the producers let her get “assulted” during the race. Still don’t like her…at all. Charla I like quite a bit however.

Chip and Kim are also starting to become my favorites, mostly because they seem like one of the few teams that’s actually taking time to look around and **enjoy** some of what’s happening. Granted a lot of times you have to hurry because it’s a race, but 20 seconds to take a look at the temple wouldn’t have killed most racers.

Like everyone else, shocked that they didn’t know what a scarab was. Still thought the road block was way too difficult.

Good going on the Mom’s making it through. Although I think they planned this leg to give that last place team at least a **chance** to stay in the game. I think they basically only had to pay for one taxi, maybe two. The rest were pre-paid I think.

The Pizza Bros. have said that Marshall did not have knee problems prior to the race. His acute tendonitis is probably a result of more general out-of-shape-ness. In one of the interview segments on the Web site, Chip mentions that he done a training regiment prior to starting the show and when he asked Marshall about his workout, Marshall had said “A little” which Lance rejoindered with “No, you didn’t”. The moral of the story is if you get picked, work your ass off in the gym.

> Great episode!!

My bright idea was that teams should have used the shovel as a probe. You walk back and forth in the grid with the shovel in the sand and try and feel when it hits an item. Turning the blade parallel to the direction of travel might make it go down far enough to hit the scarab. It looked like the scarab might have been burried deeper than 6 inches, so this might not of worked, but it has the benefit of being very quick. Try it, and if you get lucky, great. If not, you are only 10 min. worse off.

> Holy \*&%$ that was the funniest part of the show! It wasn’t just the fact that Charla said it, but the fact that the editors then decided to take a long shot on the lamb’s bad face. I pretty much lost it right there.

I did too. Especially the tense music on the foat’s face, just before cutting to commercial. They must get so bored in the editing suite when the race doesn’t generate the moments they’re looking for.

Speaking of which, I ignored CBS’s promos and actually noticed the AR credits. Saw a list of loggers, and thought, “Holy crap!”

If you don’t know, a video logger’s job is to make life easier for the editor by going through every single freakin’ piece of video and jotting down each section’s subject matter, length, and location on the tape/disk/whatever.

I read on the show’s site that it’s not the same producers and camera crew that follow the teams around the world, that they switch off throughout.

That means the loggers are getting in all manner of footage in all manner of formats, probably labelled in all manner of languages, encompassing however many hours each leg took, watching (or at least cueing through) ALL of it, and cataloguing it.

Truly a herculean effort on this show. My hat’s off to them.
