When I saw the “sticks” of ice cream wrapped in bread all I could think of the incredibly awesome waffles Homer Simpson made that Sunday he skipped out of church.

Sacrilecious…

Oh, yeah, about those bread-wrapped ice cream sandwiches… 😛 Yuck! Every time they showed one I had a gaggy moment. It’s just WRONG!

Again, I’m loving my cowboys. When they were trying to learn their drum routine, Jet asked Cord if he’d prefer that he count it out or stayed quiet. And listened to his response. He wanted to help, but know the wrong kind of help would be worse than no help at all. Few teams seem to get that.

I’m surprised that more teams didn’t try selling ice-cream. Sales challanges often go pretty fast.

The Detour rule of thumb is “Avoid needles in haystacks, animals and tasks whose outcome depends on the decisions of a random crowd.” Selling is definitely the last.

I agree, but my wife pointed out that ice cream wrapped in a waffle is all kinds of right, and it’s not all that different.

Mmmm… not sure about that. Agreed that Brent and Caite U-Turned Brandy & Carol strictly because they were meanie-pie doo-doo-heads, but I think you could construct a credible rationale why Brandy & Carol were the _best_ strategic targets.

If I remember correctly (and this is corraborated [unofficially here](http://amazingrace.wetpaint.com/page/U-Turn)), team pictures are not removed from the U-Turn box, so you could accidentally U-Turn a team that’s _ahead_ of you, thus wasting the U-Turn. Brent & Caite would have had no idea whether Louie & Michael and Dan & Jordan were ahead or behind them, other than probably guessing one of those teams had done the FF and was thus certainly ahead. So U-Turning Louie & Michael or Dan & Jordan would have a \>50% chance of not working at all.

Conversely, they knew that both Brandy & Carol and Jet & Cord were likely behind them. Of those two teams, Jet & Cord had tried the drumming once before Brent & Caite had completed the task. Although Jet & Cord screwed it up, it was a good guess that they’d be the next team to complete the task.

Since you want to U-Turn the trailing team (to make sure _they_ get eliminated and not you), Brandy & Carol would be the best bet.

Of course that’s all moot, sonce there was no real logic behind Brent & Caite’s U-Turn, but I think they might have reached the right decision, even if by the wrong logic.

That was one of the first things I commented on. Shouting encouragement and someone who is tring to count something really long is kind of the opposite of encouragement. Still, everyone got it on the first try.

Remember that weird task one season where they had to sell bike helmets? At least ice cream is probably a little easier.

Count me among the people who are not sad to see Carol and Brandy gone. I did not enjoy, however, the detectives being that self-congratulatory about “manipulating” Caite and Brent into U-turning Carol and Brandy. It’s not like they needed a push at all to make that decision, and the detectives are hardly the strategic masterminds they make themselves out to be.

…ah grasshopper…you have forgotten the other half of the equation: any “learn and perform” task that is dependent on the judges liking you or not will often suck and is to be avoided.

This was sorta iffy–there seemed to be a pretty objective right and wrong to the task, but remember the African dance thing that was 100% subjective (Kunt and Vyxzen or whatever the name of the “hello-kitty Goths” were passed and other, better dancers got bounced). Or the German dance where none of the teams got it right but the whiney old couple was given a pass, but the younger, better couple was held back.

Especially if Louie was actually involved in [the inside drug ring their police department just busted](http://www.wpri.com/dpp/news/amazing-race-cop-louie-stravato-linked-to-drug-probe)…not very strategic at all, getting involved in that kind of thing.

This seems to always be the case. I’ve always seen team mates yelling at each other during the task. I would hate that and be telling them to STFU. I wonder if they want them yelling just to make for good TV.

My respect for Jordan & Dan really went up a lot this episode. I don’t know if I could have crawled across that ferris wheel. I don’t like ferris wheels to begin with. But even with his legs visibly shaking, he put his head down and got it done. I was impressed.

I was also impressed how he said that he and Dan had agreed before coming on this race that they weren’t going to throw any elbows. I’m not convinced that alliances make sense in this game but it’s just flat stupid to antagonize your opponents.

They say “Can you take us there?” after they ask the driver if they know where the destination is. It’s almost like they’re scripted to say it. Listen for it next week. It’ll start to drive you nuts.

And WTH was with the cops’ cab driver buying their last 10 ice cream sandwiches? That seems awful close to a rule violation - you can’t pay the locals to buy something from you, can you? What incentive could the cab driver have to do so other than the expectation of a tip large enough to cover his useless-to-him purchase?

After reading the Taxi Assessment all this time, I laughed out loud when Michael actually said “Rapido!” to a cabbie. In Malaysia.

I don’t think I’d mind seeing either of the brother teams win this.

I’m surprised the editors couldn’t come up with any tape of actually snark from Team Lesbians toward Team Models other than the hearsay about the tiara. Is it possible that they never said anything else of the sort out loud? They weren’t friendly to them, but I don’t think they were as overtly rude as Caite thinks they were.

</div>

It could also have come off camera; I’m kind of glad it’s over as it was kind of ugly. I wonder about this u-turn not being “unanimous” - it wouldn’t seem to have too much effect with only four teams left, other than perhaps to create a bit more comments to throw in and heighten the conflict. Caite’s probably proud to own up to it anyway.

At this point, my money’s on either Brent & Caite or the Cowboys to win. Not that I want those first, but of the teams left, the Detectives are the weakest physically, and any tough mental challenges are probably about equally hard for the teams. The brothers really don’t seem to be getting a race-winner edit - there’s a lot of ‘I’m glad to be here with my brother’, etc. that gives me a vibe that they aren’t going to win in the end.

I didn’t see the whole flavor list for the sandwiches - I think they should have had them selling only flavors like red bean ice cream, just to make it more fun. It also wasn’t clear if they were forced to sell them on white bread only, although it did seem that way.

The Sentosa clue girl was very hot. That was obvious even without the silly effects.

I thought both Caite and the lesbians both came off looking awful in this episode. The lack of competent women on this show depresses me. It was obvious Caite cared more about getting her revenge than about racing. Keep your mind on your own game. The lesbians were positively hateful towards her after the U-turn. It does not make you look smarter to talk about how stupid the people were who got you out of the game.

Someone needs to go try some bread and ice cream and tell us if it is any good. I guess it would really depend on the kind of bread.

Though I’d still ask every time it would be the with knowledge that very few cab drivers are going to admit they don’t know where they’re going until they have you trapped in a moving cab.

I’ve had those bread ice cream sandwiches in Singapore (I always like it best when they go somewhere I’ve been and can recognize a bit). It was odd with the bread (I preferred with wafer), but it was still very good when it was 98 degrees and 98% humidity.

You may have noticed that the bread used is multicolored (see picture [here](http://www.inthemix.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=231176)) but it is still really just regular white bread. On the soft and doughy side, but just bread, not sweetened in any way that I noticed.

Did they really have many choices? They had no idea where the brothers were, and while they could probably be confident the cops were behind (since they’d left the drum task without completing it) but they couldn’t be entirely sure.

So it was either the cowboys or the Carol and Brandy. Competitively the cowboys would be the better choice (but also probably the more likely to overcome the hurdle) so in that position I’d probably be inclined to give in to personal animus too.
