No, Phil said this is the only Yield point this season.

Damn, we all thought the Gaghan rugrats’ size and strength would kill them, but no, it was Mom’s bad eyesight. They’ll be fine.

I wonder how long it took for Carissa to realize “Um, wait, I’m the youngest ever to be in the Race. Was Phil just making a joke, or just trying to make me feel better?” Whatever. Those little-girl tears made great TV.

Mama Weevil lost any claim to sympathy by asking for directions: “On right-o or left-o?” Die, witch, die. Wonder what they thought when they found out _everyone_ was going to Yield them? That they all just hate Christians?

Seconded.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Jesus is not a summon.\* Stop calling on him for _everything_.
\*Though that would be cool. I’m assuming that he would be a Holy elemental.

I’m loving the Paolo’s. Didn’t previously, do now. DJ strikes me as a serious Mama’s Boy who is trying not to be in front of the cameras. He may screech at her, but he’s the first to hug her and tell her she’s doing a great job.

The Weavers? Well, it gave a good basis to discuss hypocrisy with LilMiss. At the yield one of the daughters called a person on another team a “retard” which is a verboten word in our house. However, think back to the baseball challenge - weren’t other teams being negative and Ma said something to the effect that positive cheering would be better? Yet they’re the ones getting crap for being so negative. Maybe I’m misremembering. And yes, Rolly (the future MrLilMiss if she has her say _oy_) had a band-aid between his eyes. I said “Maybe god tried to smite him and biffed”. LilMiss didn’t find that amusing.

Oh, please. Chatter is something that I’d expect 20-something jockboys to be doing on a baseball field, no matter who was up to bat. It was Mama Weevil who got all up in arms because it was her precious little boy up there when they were doing it.

The Weavers can’t seem to fathom that it’s not that all the other teams hate Christians. It’s that all the other teams hate _them_. Their Christianity doesn’t appear to have anything to do with it (other than being the trigger for an awful lot of their paranoia and holier-than-thou please-lordisms). Their utter bitchiness and selfishness do. A lot.

I’m kind of disgusted that the Gaghan family lost due to bad luck–especially given the strong likelihood that one of these legs coming up they were going to make another navigating error or pick the wrong leg of a detour and lose on their own merits or lack there of. I’m not mad at the producers the way I was after the Space Camp episode, because this was spectacularly bad luck–not really bad race design.

The Weavers (and the Paolos) were way too lucky at the coffee bean task. I’d have rooted for the team yielded to beat another team, except that the Weavers are getting on my nerves(I’m ok with praying to find the bean, just why can’t it be the people on the sidelines doing the praying while the person searching concentrates on searching? Also, one needed pray _on camera_ for every task, really. And the snarkiness about the pictures of other families just bugged me.)

This leg was incredibly long. Started at 9pm, get to terminal, wait till 11 am, bus ride till after dark, wait at volcano till park opens, then finish rest of tasks.

My favorite part of the leg was when DJ had said that they had agreed to help the first non-Weaver team to find the bus counter so that they wouldn’t have to have them on their bus, but in fact helped all non-Weaver teams find the counter, even after the Weavers had gotten their bus ticket so that helping others wouldn’t influence the Weavers or the Paolos at all.

> Know what started the tears for me? The look on Tammy Gaghan’s face when Bill said to the family, “Are we quitters or winners?” Positively _heartbreaking._ You could tell that she blames herself for what happened with the bean, and she felt it was her fault that it wasn’t even close, there at the end,

It WAS Tammy’s fault, for Og’s sake!!! When you’re looking for ONE red bean in the middle of a zillion tan beans you don’t just stand there with your rake/hoe and kind of twiddle the piles around. You get down on your hands and knees and go through the beans at a rapid rate so you can find the damned thing!!! And she could have known that if she’d just observed the other competitors!

I liked the Gaghans’ spirit. They seemed like really nice people. And I even grew to not hate the kids. But the parents just weren’t very smart. And you have to be smart to race!

In other business, how the heck did Ma Weaver get that van out of the muck? Did the guy in the Wellies actually help her? Before the break she was stuck, the guy wasn’t moving and she was breaking down. We go to commercial and a miracle happens. She drives out of the muck like it wasn’t even there! Maybe God really is watching out for His little Florida brood! (Then why can’t He do something about the hair???)

That just plain pissed me off. Don’t stand there and tell me how good a Christian you and and then turn around and make nasty comments about everyone else in the game. So Papa Paolo picks up garbage? Big deal -someone has to. Snide remarks about the Godlewski sister’s boobs? Uncalled for.
The comments they made early on in this episode about how, “We’re good Christians, so we don’t trust anyone else and we won’t help anyone else” was just soooo many kinds of wrong I can’t even begin to explain it.
It’s people like the Weavers that give all Christians a bad name.

Well, yeah. You’re right. But you know what I meant, darnit! 😃 She didn’t want to ruin that whole awesome family experience at that moment by throwing a tantrum and flagellating herself over it (which is what I would have done). I have to say, I think the Gaghans come off on TV as pretty good parents. Their attitude seems very much to be, “Do your best, have as much fun as you can, learn from your mistakes, and move on.” Not a bad way to raise kids, I don’t think.

FWIW, we didn’t really see the Linzes at the baseball roadblock for very long - weren’t they up to bat right after Rolly? My guess is, they would have chattered regardless of who was at the plate at the time. They’re jocks; “infield chatter” is like a second language to them, I’m pretty sure. Well, maybe a third, after “English” and “fart jokes.”

I think this is a little different than last time. Not everybody hated Rob & Amber, although it was obvious that most teams resented Rob & Amber’s quasi-fame and were concerned (somewhat rightly) that it would give R&A a leg up. This time, everybody pretty much hates the Weavers, and I’m not sure that anybody knew them ahead of time, so there must be _something_ going on. I mean, I find them very off-putting just watching them on TV; what must they be like in real life for the _Linzes_ to dislike them?

I have to say that I’ve really liked this season. Yeah they’re not going to as many far and exotic places as we’re used to. But they are trapping families on planes, trains, and automobiles for long periods of time. That’s some high drama! (One week on a cruise and I was fantasizing about grizzly matricide - add the stress of a game show and there \*would \* have been carnage. Carnage, people!)

Now, please excuse me as I try to scrub the image of big, weepy eyes and quivering chin from my mind.

Yeah … Phil said Carissa was “the youngest player ever to make it this far in the Race,” which … OK, it’s _true_, but _still_. I don’t think telling Gretchen & Meredith that they were “the oldest team ever to make it [to 4th place] in the Race” was much consolation to them, either. Of course, I thought G&M were going to keel over before the end of Ep. 3, so I was pleasantly surprised.

I like their attitude about raising their kids, but mom seemed awfully blasé about the task. She seemed to be almost throwing her hands up and saying “well, I just don’t think there’s a gosh darned red bean in here.” If they’re telling the kids to do their best, she could have actually done her best. And they’ve shown her wearing glasses at least once; I wonder if this was bad luck mixed with bad eyesight. Is there a each-team-member-can-perform-only-x-roadblocks rule this season, and that’s why they had her do it?

And wouldn’t that have been the perfect roadblock to turn one of the kids loose on? Sure, they couldn’t lift that rake and spread out the coffee beans like the grown-ups, but I can imagine either one of them just diving in face first and plowing the whole pile around.

I agree. If anything I think it would make me feel worse, actually.
But I was just confused about why ElvisL1ves thought Carissa would later realize she was the youngest ever in the race, when she wasn’t.

Perhaps. But that’s what happens when Killer Fatigue sets in, I suppose. What I will say is, since they didn’t win, I’m glad they got Philiminated before they got whiny and started all in with the “I don’t wanna do this any more _waaaaaaaaah!_” nonsense. I’ll miss the Gaghans most because they never resorted to that. I really, _really_ loathe the wabbing.
