ArchiveGuy points out that Dr. Strangelove and Fail-Safe are quite similar and came out in 1964. Let’s not forget Seven Days in May, which was released only a couple of weeks after Dr. Strangelove, and has the same basic plot (psychotic general attempts to trigger World War 3).
