It has come to my attention that some uncertainty has arisen with regard to the status terminology utilised by [Amazon.co.uk](http://Amazon.co.uk) and [Amazon.com](http://Amazon.com), respectively. In the interests of clarity, it may be appropriate to set out the position more precisely.

British ([amazon.co.uk](http://amazon.co.uk)) · · · · · · · · · · · · American ([amazon.com](http://amazon.com))
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
In hand · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · In Stock
Limited, mind · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · ·Only X left in stock
None at present · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · ·Out of Stock
Not just now · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · Temporarily Out of Stock
Afraid not · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · Currently Unavailable
In due course · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · Available to Ship in X–Y Days
In the normal course · · · · · · · · · · · · · · ·Usually Ships Within X Days
All being well · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · ·Arrives by [Date]
There or thereabouts · · · · · · · · · · · · · · Arrives between [Date] and [Date]
With a bit of luck · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · ·Get it by [Date]
To be confirmed · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · Delivery Date Pending
We’ll see to it · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · Ships from Amazon
Handled elsewhere · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · ·Ships from and sold by [Seller]
Other arrangements available · · · · · · · · Available from These Sellers
Forthcoming · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · ·Pre-Order
Provisionally scheduled · · · · · · · · · · · · ·Release Date: [Date]
Duly noted · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · Order Received
Being attended to · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · Preparing for Shipment
On the list · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · Back-ordered
Held up en route · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · ·Delayed in Transit

A case in point would be ordering an item that should be expected to arrive on a _certain_ date (or earlier), with later dates being considered right out. It is most clear in the American side: “Get it by [Date],” covers this clearly, as Americans certainly **do** mean this to be **the date** , and generally **not** the next date following, or any further date ranges.

The British refer to date ranges, as above, as “There or thereabouts”.

It can be terribly confusing, unfortunately.

Sometimes “In Hand” may be confused with “On hand”, which other non-Amazon shops might use. It may be safely said that they mean the same thing, yet Amazon will only process items that are “In hand,” and it is hoped that one refers to them in this singular manner.

We are grateful for your kind attention and trust that the foregoing may be of assistance.
