Any moreso than Netflix?
I’m returning mine.
The reasons are entirely my own preferences and quirks; I’d still recommend it to someone for whom the device makes sense.
The good: easy to setup, the UI is indeed snappy, and generally the UI is intuitive.
The bad: the remote’s navigation wheel is noisy; very much so. Continually clicking right to navigate a list of shows would be audibly aggravating.
My real reason for returning it: Amazon’s instant video offerings apparently suck, and the voice search (which is convenient and returns accurate results) only seems to include Amazon offerings. I chose at least 20 different TV shows, from decades-old NYPD Blue to more recent things like GCB, and every - single - one of them required paying as much as $4 an episode. Absolutely everything that I wanted to watch (and I focused on TV series, because I seldom have the patience to sit through a movie any more) was pay-per-view.
I can watch Netflix or Hulu on several other devices already hooked to, or part of, my TV; I don’t need to spend $100 on another. Granted, it IS a nice device all-around, and for someone who does not already have a Roku or other streaming device, I would recommend the Fire TV, but only if the potential user was OK with the Amazon-centricity.
But I was expecting a lot more useful content from Amazon’s video services. I’ve been a Prime member for over 2 years and have never used their Prime video services before; apparently, I haven’t missed anything.
