Supposedly several packages rest on my front porch right now. On the Facebook group for the Instant Pot, one person posted that she works for the USPS and has handled numerous shipments of the pots since Prime Day :D. Interestingly, yesterday (the day AFTER Prime Day) I stumbled across a site that mentioned a discount on Audible for 6 months (9.99 vs 14.99 or something). I had not been able to find any such thing on the actual day, which is annoying. So I followed the link - and it actually worked! Now I’m browsing Audible to decide what to spend my monthly credits on. They now carry the Harry Potter books!! (last time I checked, they did not). Though of course the one time I listened to HP - Philosopher’s Stone on audiobook (from library) i wasn’t all that impressed with the vaunted voice characterizations. They have the French versions as well - should I torture myself with that? ---

I’m sorry if I seemed like an asshole there, I thought I was playing along! Amazon Prime is a thing you buy in to from Amazon which gives you a series of perks. Discounts on items, free shipping, access to TV shows and movies and the like. Once a year there is something called Prime Day, which is basically Black Friday but only for Prime members. Shit that’s normally discounted anyway is super discounted. Example: My PS4. The bundle I got is normally $299, but Amazon has it for me (As a prime member) for $260. However, because of Prime Day, I was able to nab it for $220, but I got an extra game to boot. It’s a pretty cool day to convince yourself you REALLY NEED that thing you want 😃 ---

Prime Day is exactly the same as Black Friday/Cyber Monday except it’s only on [Amazon.com](http://Amazon.com) and only for people with Prime memberships. There’s stuff that is just generally discounted and stuff that is discounted only if you have an Amazon Echo to order through, stuff that is discounted if you have a Prime credit card, and then there’s is stuff that they only sell a certain number of and is only on sale for a set amount of time. It’s ridiculous and it totally makes you buy stuff you didn’t think you wanted, or stuff that’s not actually that deeply discounted. But you can find some deep deals (the best deals are the deals on Amazon-branded tools like Echo and Kindle!) amongst all the chaff. ---

I picked up a gaming headset that retails for $279, was on sale for $179 then the Prime Day price was $125. I checked via Google Shopping and it did indeed currently sell for $279 from Fry’s and NewEgg unlike a different headset I looked at that was $25 down from “$80” when all the online reviews suggested it was more like $35. My main Christmas gift last holiday broke immediately and was returned but they couldn’t replace it and it took forever to get refunded at which point my wife just suggested I find something fun for around $200. This will do nicely. Annoyingly, it offered free one day shipping and was supposed to arrive last night. Tracked it to a a point a couple suburbs over and then all of a sudden it said “Transit Delay” and changed my arrival date to ¯\_(ツ)\_/¯ I’ll give them through today to deliver it (usual 2-day Prime delivery period) before making a racket. ---

Nice comeback joke too. 🙂 I knew what Amazon Prime was. My own use of Amazon is just now up to the level where I \*might \*benefit from Prime. Much as I’m deeply against the idea of paying a retailer for the privilege of spending money at their store. A pox on Costco and all their ilk in my book. As somebody who gets offered Prime (and a “free” credit card! Woot!) every time I visit Amazon’s site, I’m surprised they never once mentioned “Hurry up and get your membership today; only _X_ days left until this year’s Prime Day.” But I never saw any such advertising. Which left me wondering what this marvelous deal known only to insiders was. Along w/ solar eclipse glasses, I took advantage of their various, ‘Add X to your Amazon giftcard balance for an additional credit.’ and the great coupons offered on a couple of snacks and real basmati rice, as well as finally pulling the trigger on an electric skillet I’d had on my Wishlist for months. Still, I barely spent $50 after the promotional credits. I didn’t even have to pay for a Prime membership, I happen to be a household member for another one. ---

As to be expected w/ the sudden spike in volume, FedEx broke the box my delivery came in and half the items are AWOL. But I have all the orange tape I could ever need, they wrapped most of the box in it. Hooray for automated help emails! ---

Unrelated to Prime day: I ordered a couple of things a week or two ago including a large bottle of calcium / magnesium supplements. It came in a box with one other item, and it was in bubble wrap. I looked at the wrap and could see loose pills. Yeah, the bottle had shattered, leaving little shards of glass loose in the package. Amazon’s online return service was not helpful - it would have printed a return mailing label and had me send it back. I wasn’t eager to send a package containing lots of broken glass. I needed to talk to a human - and Amazon does NOT make it easy to find their customer service phone number (I finally got it by googling). They did make it right: they re-ordered the stuff (or maybe I had to), and they simply credited me for the purchase without any need to return the unsafe container. ---

I did, but Amazon never asked for them. I used the customer service email, they replied quickly and sent out replacement rice that I got yesterday. The eclipse glasses had to be refunded b/c they came from a 3rd party seller, but I reordered them immediately w/ no trouble and they’re making their way across the ocean right now. I haven’t seen vitamins or supplements in glass bottles in forever! I once got a case of pickling salt from Amazon where one box of several had a hole and leaked salt ALLLL over in its transit. Called them, offered pics and they said they didn’t need them. Then they sent a whole other case, b/c they can’t only replace one part in an order like that. ---

I’m paying my credit card bill tonight and did the math on how much I saved on Prime Day. I saved $160 on all my stuff. Most of the savings - $99 - was from the 23andMe kit that I bought for $99 instead of $199. $15 was from the two incentives that I got ($5 for buying a gift card and $10 for ordering through Alexa). I saved $15 on my dad’s Echo Dot, $3 on the backup battery, $9 on the watch and $17 on movies. The tee I bought for my brother and the Dr Who DVDs he bought are all pretty much the same price today as they were on Prime Day, even though they were advertised as deals :-/ ---
