Amazon Prime is going to start charging for streaming

Gotta pay for Rings of Power somehow, I guess.

I’m not sure I’ll renew my annual subscription next month. The free shipping was one of the main draws and they are removing that feature.

I guess Jeff needs another yacht or something. Blurgh, I’m rather irritated with the billionaires of the world at the moment.

They’re removing the shipping ?- I thought they were just charging extra for ad free streaming

What gave you that idea?

I have spent a few weeks trying to find a vanity and I ended up at Wayfair because they offered free shipping. A lot of the ones I liked on Amazon had a shipping charge even though the amount was well over $35.00.

Maybe that’s not new and I just never noticed before, but it seemed like there were very few options that included the shipping.

Don’t forget they also took our music away. I had two huge playlists, one regular music and one Christmas, that I spent a lot of time making. Then suddenly all of the music (except for the songs I had to buy) disappeared from my playlist. I’m not sure, because I haven’t listened to it since the change, but I’m assuming it’s now like the other music apps where there are ads or you can only listen to “stations” like Pandora. Unless of course you pay extra. :slightly_frowning_face:

Oh - it was never every item that was eligible for either Prime shipping or free shipping over $35.

I believe the free shipping only applies on stuff shipped by Amazon, so it may not be available on stuff sold by others.

We dropped Prime last year because of Amazon’s anti-union bullshit. But sometimes I miss them. This sort of nonsense firms my resolve; so, thanks, Amazon!

I believe we have one of those ZIPs and we’re some four miles from HQ2.

So I just never noticed it before. Well, I’m not sure they’re worth it anymore. I seldom stream from there.

I forgot about the Union issues. That’s another good reason to drop it.

I am sometimes surprised by what’s free on Amazon Prime Video. Monk for example is currently free under Prime. But I had to pay for season packs of The Closer and Major Crimes.

You can’t get Hogans Heroes ad free under streaming. They bounce me to Freevee to see it with ads. You can’t buy it.

The old Season packs of Hogans DVD can still be bought. But that’s a PITA in 2023.

I sure hope that I can watch the content I already bought without paying the new Prime Fees. I have several movies and tv shows that I putchased.

You bought and paid for them and they have nothing to do with your Prime subscription.

Most of the larger streaming services have a lot of old content like that, I think because the licensing fees are cheap.

Correct. It’s also not a bad idea to link your Amazon subscription to Movies Anywhere, along with your iTunes, Vudu, Google Play, Fandango, etc. accounts. It’ll pull all digital movies you own that are published by the participating studios so you can access them on any of those sites.

So if you purchased “2 Fast 2 Furious” (Universal Studios, which participates) on iTunes, you can watch it at any of those streaming sites. But if you purchased “Addams Family Values” (Paramount, which doesn’t participate) on Amazon, you can only watch it on Amazon. Paramount, MGM and Lionsgate are the big 3 that don’t, but Fox, Universal, Disney, Sony and WB do - it’s an awesome service to sign up for that’s free. It alleviates the pain in the ass of remembering which movies you bought at which retailer.

I bailed on Prime recently after using it for more than a decade. One of the huge benefits for me was being able to order things when I was on the road and pick them up at a locker in a city where I was headed. However they failed me several times in the last year–the items were “delayed” and ultimately never even shipped. Not the end of the world (I ended up getting the stuff at Walmart), but very frustrating.

That, combined with the “2-day” delivery turning into 4 or 5 days and their cancellation of a couple “subscribe and save” items without any reason was enough to unseal the deal for me. When I talked to customer service they apologized profusely but that’s all. When I mentioned the possibility of them comping me a month of Prime for my trouble the rep said, “Oh yeah, we don’t do that any more”. Okay, fine, time to cancel then. Paying $139 a year for “fast, free delivery” some of the time and a so-so video library just doesn’t cut it.

I think you misspelled “Thursday Night Football”

I’m convinced now. My Prime subscription ends on November 11th. I’m not going to renew. If I find that I really need it, i can always get it back.

It’s funny, that wasn’t my intent when I started this thread, but I’d forgotten the stupid thing they did with music, and my wife says most of our orders are more than $25 and even $35, and so we’re going to do the same.

Ours doesn’t renew until January, and it seems like there’s no partial refund, so I’ve set a notification to be reminded then.

Every revolution starts with one small step.
