To Paul Cellucci – Ambassador to Canada
Ambassador to Canada Paul Cellucci recently gave Canada shit for not jumping into the war in Iraq. “We would come to aid Canada without hesitation," Mr. Cellucci said. “It’s disappointing that one of our family is not supporting us.”
Well you know what? You’re a lying sack of shit. World War 1 did not start in 1917 Mr. Cellucci, but rather in 1914. You hesitated a couple of years there, eh? In addition, World War 2 did not start in 1941 Mr. Cellucci. Canadians had been fighting Hitler since 1939. Thanks OH SO MUCH for “coming to our aid without hesitation” then, you hypocritical scumbag. But then, of course, Hitler was just a misunderstood painter, eh? Plus, the majority of US citizens did not want to get involved in a European conflict. Mr. Cellucci, please pull your head out of George W’s colon for a moment and CONSULT A HISTORY BOOK.
But then, we’re “one of the family”, eh? Well, if we are, we’re the abused step-sister part of the family. We’re the “getting boned up the arse and locked under the stairs” part of the family. You’re all in favour of free trade, as long as YOU’RE the ones benefiting. If Canada benefits, OH BOY, WATCH out, there will be duties and tariffs slapped on to our products pretty damn quick eh? You’ve been hammering away at softwood lumber for years. Every time Canada wins at the international arbitration tables, you think up another ploy to destroy our industry.

Trade in wheat is currently under dispute too. Cant’ stand the thought of FAIR trade can you. Has to always go your way.
And you know what? We DO SUPPORT you when you’ve been attacked. Canada was INCREDIBLY supportive after 9/11. What did that get us? Snubbed by good old George W. He thanked every country in the world except…. Canada. That’s OK though. We’re used to being snubbed and screwed by you.
When there was good evidence to believe that terrorists were in Afghanistan, WE SUPPORTED YOU THEN. We sent troops. You bombed them. Yes, the only Canadian casualties of the war in Afghanistan were killed by Americans. Thank you very much.
Of course, those 9/11 terrorists all came down from Canukistan, right? That damn open border was just an invitation for terrorists to come into the land of freedom. When that THEORY and SPECULATION was shown to be COMPLETELY FALSE, did we get an apology? A mention? No. In February 2003, when the alert about the 5 “terrorists” coming from Canada was shown to be a hoax, did we get an apology from the US fearmongers? No.

**InTheField** , I posted a longer post in the other thread, but I just wanted to add my welcome, and say: right on.
As an American, I can remember many times when Canada has helped us out. (In the other thread, I recalled when the staff at the Canadian Embassy in Iran smuggled a bunch of Americans out if Iran in 1980, when Khomeini’s regime was holding over 50 American hostages. Just to add to what you and **CuriousCanuck** have already mentioned.) Damned if I know why sometimes, the way we alternately ignore you, then give you grief when you have (gasp!) a foreign policy of your own, as if you were a real live independent nation or something.
This American has to say “thanks, Canada,” for being a better neighbor than we deserve.

There has been a lot of anti-Canadian talk going on, some of it accusing of Chrétien of “tolerating anti-American sentiment”. The sheer arrogance of saying anti-American talk is not okay but anti-Canadian talk is makes me want to vomit.
This latest incident is just one more point on my list of reasons I’m embarrassed by the administration in my country. Luckily, I may be living in Canada myself in a few months.

Thank you, **InTheField**. I too wanted to smack him upside the head for his incredibly insulting whine. In his defense, I understand he was told to say what he did by high-ups in the Bush administration, but if he had any balls at all he would have told the administration why the message was unacceptable, and the most he could do was express a general sense of unhappiness at the position of the Canadian government.
And those not-particularly-veiled threats about trade issues…sheesh, like those fuckers haven’t been screwing us over for years on lumber, wheat, etc, already, and like that would have changed if we’d meekly followed along.
I would, however, like to invite Mr. Cellucci to Saskatoon, however, as he apparently is highly qualified for some of the jobs available hereabouts, shovelling bullshit.

Canada was deeply concerned about the threat to security caused by 40,000 live landmines around the world. The US did not share this concern, not immediately, not without debate. Celluci is breaking diplomatic protocol with his useless advice, and Bush is indeed a failed statesman.
