So I was watching TV this weekend, and saw an ad for Ambien. Finally, it hit me like a ton of bricks: Ambien. AM + bien (fr. for “good”) = Good morning! How clever is that? So, was I the last person on earth to figure this out? ---

You might be near the last for French speaker to get this. Speaking English and some German I don’t get it. I do notice that there are a large number of severe side effects spewed forth during the ads, so how good of a day you can have is suspect. ---

I’ve always wondered if there is a job position for someone specifically to make up names for new drugs, and nothing else. ---

I never put those together either, but like Khadaji, I didn’t try either. I just got the Kay Jeweler’s “Every kiss begins with Kay” campaign about a year ago. Whoooooooshed right over my head it did. (Kiss begins with K.) ---

It’s pronounced “ass effects”, basically. I have a friend who is a physician, and even she is completely mortified mentioning it to patients. ---

I didn’t realize this either, although it does seem obvious now. Then again, when the first ads for Levitra first came out, I had no idea it was an ED drug. The “get back in the game” tag line and symbolism of a guy throwing a football through a tire swing went completely over my head. I took it way too literally and figured it was some drug for chronic muscle pain, like Celebrex. So go figure… ---

An MD told me this years ago. Apparently he heard it from a drug rep. I have told lots of people and they never think it is as cool as I do. I am glad you guys think it is clever. ---
