What a fantastic film (OK, I’m a little late with the appreciation on this) - I chanced upon a virtually brand new copy of the video for next to nothing in a charity shop, so I thought I’d give it a go.
Often when I watch a film, I come away thinking “oh, but if only they had done this-and-such, it would have been so much better”.
Not. This. Film.
Perfect (as the critics have said), just _Perfect_.

I really like it, too.
I enjoyed it when I watched it, but the more I think about it now, the more it grows on me.
And Amazon is toying with me by putting it on my recommendations list. It’s just a matter of time before I break down and buy it.

I like it so much that I am kind of glad there are a few souls who can’t stand it.
If it was universally liked I’d have to wonder what was up.
The movie captured something for me that no other movie that I have seen has.
(P.S. Please, someone come along and say how much you disliked it and how it sucked! I want to be able to chew you out and make disparaging comments about your personal grooming habits and those of your mother!)

I disliked it! It sucked!
Okay, I’m lying. I thought it was great, too. It’s the -only- romantic movie that I’ve ever been able to stand. (I’m somewhat cynical when it comes to the ‘L’ word) Not only was it sweet and fun to watch, but from a technical standpoint, the direction and cinematography and writing were outstanding.

I liked it, as well. Movies who have central characters with odd quirks who don’t even care are just wonderful. I need to buy that film.

Hmm. The begining was great but it got a little too cutesey and dragged on for too long. A couple of the sub-plots; eg the mentally retarded assistant didn’t add too much to the film and were a little too sentimental in the Hollywood fashion. Still I don’t regret watching the film and I may watch it again to enjoy the cinematography.

I loved it. I don’t think any other movie has made me smile as much. To put an over-used cliche to use, it really is a ‘feel good’ movie.
My husband, on the other hand, fell asleep while watching it. Twice. :rolleyes:

The odd thing is that now, a few hours after watching it, I’m remembering the spoken dialogue in English (if you see what I mean) - weird huh?

Warning though: Loved _Delicatessen_ but it is NOTHING like Amelie. You can see Terry Gilliam, especially _Brazil_ all over _Delicatessen_ though.

I liked _Amelie_ and I liked _City of Lost Children_. Now I guess I’ll have to find _Delicatessen_. And I like Terry Gillam, too, so that part won’t bother me.

That happens to me too. Probably because I don’t know any French. I’m very good at reading subtitles and have no problem “hearing” the characters speak in English when I’m reading them, so I guess that’s how I remember it.

The first time I saw this movie, I came away from it thinking, “You know, everything’s going to work out in the end.”
No movie has ever made me so happy from watching it. The more I think about it, the more solid its place in my Top Five of All Time is.
I like to break my creme brulee with a spoon. 🙂
