I thought as much about The Progressive. Heavily liberal paper/magazine/website = total bullshit.

I really have to automatically disqualify anything put forth ONLY by The Progressive or over NPR, unless there is factual corroboration on more mainstream news sources.

Absolutely. No use stewing about what someone said 4 weeks ago. Some of the reactions that I’ve heard stunned me at the time, but in retrospect, I can see that a lot of people were in major forms of denial. What happened was so completely horrible and inconceivable that utter disbelief was a pretty normal reaction.

Of course, I was never in denial myself.

Actually, that morning, I woke up and turned on the TV. The first thing I saw was and image of the South tower being struck, and the words “America Under Attack” on the screen. My first reaction? “This show sucks. I wonder what’s on Game Show Network.” It took about 60 seconds of watching Jamie Farr giving Pyramid clues before it sunk in that maybe something important was going on. It took another 60 minutes before I realized that what was taking place was, in fact, real.

My first reaction was instant fear about nuclear attacks-I had panic attacks that night thinking about it.

The title is a current favorite of my 8 year old daughter.
Of the 9.11 Attacks:
My first reaction was: No way in HELL would a Pilot take a plane into the WTC when the water is right there. Someone was aiming for it.
We were watching Bryant Gumbel becasue my Mom had called to tell us of the attack. If they ever replay his reaction he’s like: “We don’t know how this accident happened…” and later “Oh no it looks like another plane is coming into view”… sounding like someone who is totally in disbelief to the point of not putting it all together yet. I think many people were not immediately understanding the magnitude of this horrible reality.
For sure the people who were near the buildings as they collapsed resonated the scariest thing I have ever heard a voice say. (We were watching FOX by then and a man called out “Back it up!”. His tone was unmistakable. I will never forget it…This was the second tower.
When that second plane hit I thought that the power structure of Niagara Falls, poision into the Great Lakes, and Washington were next. Seriously. I was amazed that we had internet service.
When the report came from a downed plane in Pennsylvania I immediately said “there were heros on that plane.” Then I said a prayer thanking them for their bravery.
We have a lot to be grateful for, our communicating system for one. Never have so many seen HELL as it happened. I think it immediately forced a decision in the heart of everyone who saw it; to live our lives stronger and with more integrity, to live for peace. These are the things that I want to remember. Peace will prevail because freedom is the soul of our Being.
