They really tried to make those commercials seem like they were part of the programming.
Wow. I just saw the episode on the American Revolution. I was joking before, but this really is The Story of Us New Yorkers.
Apparently, the war was won almost entirely in New York. The victory at Saratoga and Washington’s spies in New York City apparently combined to bring the British to their knees. We skip ahead briefly to a place called Yorktown (we know not where, exactly – must be someplace in New York) and learn that Cornwallis has somehow managed to gen pinned down there (we know not how). But the important point is we owe it all to New York.
I just saw the revolution episode, and I was pretty disappointed. With the exception of the spy stuff, which I first heard about some 10 years ago, I learned almost everything that was in the show back in 5th grade.
Well, my teacher didn’t say anything about Steuben’s homosexuality, but it was the '50s.
Yeesh… I think those last two connected episodes were 60% recycled Story of Us footage and 40% stock archive footage. That had to be the cheapest of the episodes to produce.
