American Car More Valuable in the UK

Her ‘character’ (the car) is Italian, she’s speaking Italian, but Catrinel Menghia’s Romanian.
And single!

Here’s the version of the commercialfrom the Superbowl, but I didn’t see it until months later; I seriously had no clue what it was a commercial for.

Yes, I should be clear, I wouldn’t lump the Caterham (Lotus) Seven in with “replica” or “kit car” even though they can be considered both. It is such a well-established brand now that it stands apart from the rest of the kit-car crowd. And rightly so, they are very serious vehicles indeed and there few better track-day cars for the enthusiast.

When I moved to the UK in 1995 I brought my 92 Chevy Lumina Z34 with me. At the time the rules for selling it in the UK without paying import duty were that it needed to have been registered to me in the US for at least 6 months and registered in the UK for a year. I sold it after about 3 years and didn’t get as much as I expected for it. Even advertised it in specialist US car magazines and never got a sniff.

I meant Seven clones generally, rather than just Caterhams. There are dozens of the damn things.

Hubba. Hubba.

Any vehicle that looks distinctive is potentially more valuable in the UK - even if it’s butt-ugly - there’s a small, but lucrative market in hire and chauffer-driven cars for arrival to proms, weddings, parties, etc - even if it’s one of those ugly-ass slab-like behemoths (that you could easily park several of our own cars on top of) - if it’s different-looking, and in shiny condition, it’s potentially more valuable than it might be at home.

You could always ditch the SUV and buy yourself an old US police interception – these guys in my husband’s home-village will snap them up

Warning!!! Site has rather obnoxious sound (I’ve broken the link because so no one accidently ends up with cop car sirens blasting out of their speakers!)

On a serious note, there are some places that specialise in left-hookers and are looking to buy them. This dealership is near us; I’ve got them bookmarked because I suspect once I’m flush again, I’m going to replace my RHD Mini with a LHD.

Autotrader.co.uk also has the occasional left-hand drive for sale as well. All of these cars, however, meet UK automobile specs; your US-made car will have to be adapted.

Dangit, I knew I should have held on to my Pinto wagon!
Seriously, I like to think my Escape is stylish and it does hold 5 people. Or 3 people and one Traveler bridal gown.

Ms. Boods, an ugly secret about the Interceptors is their annoying habit of catching fire in crashes more so than other vehicles.
