I’m eager to see how the new judges work out. Honestly, I’m a bit concerned without Simon this could fall flat. Steven Tyler is actually pretty entertaining, from what I’ve seen so far (I’m timeshifting, about 40 minutes behind). I was expecting much, much worse. ---

I, for one, am not buying the whole narrative about how bad J Lo feels for ever having to say “no.” I think she wants to let the audience know how super nice she is. Feels really staged. Liking Tyler more than I thought I would. ---

Steven Tyler is doing better than I expected too. He’s toning down the stage persona, and he’s coming off as nice without being saccharine. He’s good at saying no. He’s not a jerk about it. he doesn’t say it in a mean way, but he’s firm and unequivocal about it, and he isn’t patronizing. ---
