“Is there any better feeling?”

“Not having cancer.”

Did they just tell that girl she was “brave” because she had leukemia? Jesus Christ, how fucking patronizing can you get?

She wasn’t even that good. Her breathing was off, she was mumbly, her mannerisms were stilted. She wasn’t terrible, but she wasn’t any better than passable. If it wasn’t for the cancer, she’d have gone nowhere.

Where was Katy to call bullshit on that when we needed her?

Even the style manuals now tell you to avoid referring to people with disabilities or diseases as brave, courageous, or inspiring.

You know what I miss? I miss when they used to play a montage of various auditioners singing the same song. Not all at once, but this guy singing a few seconds of it and then cut to that girl singing the next few seconds, and so on. They usually would show one of these montages near the end of each of the opening round audition shows. When did they stop doing that?

Barney Whip Girl was okay with the Barney song–maybe they let her through because of that. It couldn’t have been because of what else she sang.
Or maybe they were just scared she would flay them all to ribbons if they said no.

I agree. Her En Vogue song was awful, she used some sort of affectation that she probably thought sounded cool but it sucked. However the Barney song was pretty good and that was just plain singing. Frankly though, I think she got through because of the dirty little girl thing, don’t matter one bit that one judge was a straight woman and another was a gay man.

YES! YES! YES!

I liked the big black dock worker guy - he looked like fun. I also really liked the tall brunette girl who sang her own song - I thought she had lots of potential. She isn’t current? So what? Style her up and make her current.

I loved NPH - scrappin’ it up with Simon, eh? He wasn’t shy at all. Joe Jonas was a blank space. He is a cute little bastard, though.

I think we have one more week of auditions and then we go to H’wood.

I think they still did that last season. I guess people finally clued in to the fact that if they made you learn a new song, you suck. I always hated those montages.

There was nothing wrong with that last girl, except that she was chubby, and (I suspect) that she did an original, which Simon hates, because he hates it if a contestant has any creative independence at all. He also hates it when they can play instruments.

I agree, she was simply great, and the only reason I could come up with why Simon would say no was because NPH was so quick to say yes.

I actually did!

I was annoyed that Big Black Dock Worker made it. Apparently fat is okay for some performers; others are sneered at for being “no American Idol”. And he wasn’t even very good!

Just a general comment: I am sick of hearing people who have picked up all these bad habits and mannerisms. First they gasp in air, then they groan like deep emotions are being dragged from the very depths of their souls by a fishhook, then they wail as if they’re dying of melisma… I don’t want to hear someone who makes singing sound _hard_, I want to hear someone who makes it sound _easy_.

Did anyone hear Joe Jonas say anything other than “Yes” and “No”? Wow, not only no personality - he’s a personality vacuum.

I have to think he pissed off one of the show’s producers or something. We didn’t hear him say anything other than “yeah” or “naw” because that’s all they _showed_ him saying. There’s no way that was the extent of his day – it was just edited to make it seem that way.

Ha ha ha ha. Good one. Yeah, so IMPOSSIBLE to believe that a Jona Brother has no real personality other than his carefully groomed image. Far more likely that he said brilliant, perspicacious things that were edited out because he was just too real, yo.

I don’t know what it’s worth, but I read some TWOP chatter saying the Jonas Bro acted like a prima donna while he was there (something about demanding that the air conditioner be cranked up full blast?). The paring down of his appearance may have been doing him if a favor if he was basically being a d-bag the whole time.

I find it perfectly believable that he is really just that vacuous, though.
