There’s really no standouts in this top 24. And there’s no extraordinary tatiana del toro-style train wrecks. Boring. ---

This year should be the end of Idol. they have a chunk of crappy singers. If you are upstairs while it is on, the girls sound pretty much the same. Nobody stands out in the guys. It is a mess. ---

I liked Mullet Boy better in dress rehearsal recaps. I think he was hit by major nerves. Not sure how you missed that Fallout Boy song, Dio. It was everywhere about 2-3 years ago. ---

Gah. I don’t even have the energy to write a snarky recap after that. It was all just too boring. Casey James and Andrew Garcia were the only two who put in performances that were actually listenable outside a competition. The rest were just… blah. This is shaping up to be a boring season. No really bad singers, no one to really hate so far, only a few good ones, and maybe only two or three that might have artistic merit outside of just being competent with their voices. ---

We’re only as far as Tyler Grady, and I haven’t seen anything yet that I could stand, much less actually like. Some of them were making me wish they would JUST STOP SINGING! 70’s boy (Tyler Grady) - wow, did he ever suck the life out of _that_ song. Get a haircut, hippy. Joe Muñoz - this year’s creepy Latino? ---

I think Neck Tat Garcia was my favourite of the night - I completely disagreed with Simon. That wasn’t a great song choice, though - that wasn’t much of a song to start with (it had a little hook, but that’s all it had going for it). ---

I liked Andrew, Aaron was okay, Casey was great, Michael was fun, but all the rest were horrible or just plain unmemorable. I wasn’t home to see the women (no DVR–I know I’m slow). ---

I started watching last season, so this wasn’t apparent to me then, but I wish the people who run the show didn’t make it so obvious who they wanted to win. It’s just not fair to put the two male contestants that have gotten the most coverage prior to Top 24 in the last two slots. ---

Okay, I just remembered something I wanted to snark about - THAT DAMNED BAND. God, the American Idol band just sucks the life out of everything they do. I swear, I’ve heard MIDI tracks with more life in them. They’re okay if they’re playing broadway show tunes or whatever is in their narrow little wheelhouse, but every time they try to play a rock song it sounds like Muzak. That had to be the worst rendition of “American Woman” I’ve ever heard. And I’m not talking about the singer. Burton Cummings himself would have sounded lame with that whitebread soulless gaggle of studio hacks playing behind him. Did you notice that for ‘rock week’ last year they dumped the band and went with honest-to-god rock musicians (it was actually some of the guys from the “Rock Star” house band). The result was the best night of music they had on that show for a long time. So why do they come back with Ricky Minor and The Sleep Inducers? All I can think of is that they’re trying not to ‘overshadow’ the singers or something. But the Rock Star band never did that - they just made them sound better, and therefore made the show more fun to watch. But there must be a reason why the biggest, most profitable music show in the world employs such a third-rate band. Hell, even the judges have complained about the band numerous times. Usually they hide the criticism by saying they don’t like the ‘arrangement’, but often what they mean is that the band sucked, because the arrangement is standard. Perhaps Ricky Minor has a picture of Simon Cowell and a barnyard animal or something. If you don’t think that band is bad, compare and contrast them with the Rock Star Supernova House Band: [Rock Star - Fire](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vg4RCheEYTo&feature=related) [Interstate Love Song](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6soEvtBsuT8) And they did an amazing job of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody - doubly so considering it’s just one of a dozen songs they had to learn in a week: [Rock Star - Bohemian Rhapsody](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fsup8Z-tz3k). Also, I just remembered that almost all the performers on that show were better than the ones AI gets. What’s up with that? For example, Jill Goia was booted off the show about halfway through. Here’s her version of [Alone](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pmQ1lxUCqs&feature=related), which was performed on AI the other night. Jill’s version was light years better. ---
