I can’t believe they spent so much time on Rose and Katrina. They spent a lot of time of Tatiana too, but she’s still in. In fact, it was half drama, half singing. I could do without the drama part, please. I liked Emily in the audition round, when she sang “Barracuda,” a lot, but she sucked during Hollywood week and deserved to go. When they showed highlights, black haired actor guy stuck out as someone to listen for. I see they kept blind guy. Two others I am interested in, but don’t know the fate, are the 16 year old who was Kara’s #1 fan(she wore a pink cowgirl hat during auditions), and the husky voiced guitar playing girl. Does anyone know if they made the cut? Also, I am still scratching my head as to what Kara adds to the show. The only reason I can think about why she was added was that she is being groomed to replace Paula. If not that, I am stumped. ---

I’m convinced I know how this show is set up. Contestants go to tryouts, and they get legitimately vetted or dissed. Then they call back the likes of Bikini Girl and Tatiana and say, “Look, there is no way in hell that you’re going to make it to the top 10. But if you bring some drama, we’ll put you through, and see what kind of fun you can have.” I am amazed that anyone can think that Kara and/or Paula are “hotter” than Bikini Girl. Truthfully, she’s nowhere as attractive as she thinks she is… but she’s much better looking than both of them. I’d rather spend an hour with both of them than 10 minutes with BG, but she’s easily better looking! I am also disappointed in the youth of America. I’m hardly an amateur musician, but a fan of good music. I knew virtually all of the words to the songs they sang, whether it was Fleetwood Mac or the Jackson 5. How can you be a professional, or aspiring professional vocalist and not know the words to classic songs like those? I blame segmentation of the media market. The fake cutaways were ridiculous as well. It was obvious that the judges weren’t laughing during the singing, and BG wasn’t primping during their comments. ---

Jim and I were discussing the strategy of the show last night - I think they’re holding back on showing the really good, strong contenders (like Anoop Dawg and Blind Guy) to blow us away further on, and Jim says they have always shown the strongest performers right from the start. We both agree on less drama and talking heads and more showing us the singing. I really, really wanted to see Anoop’s group perform, with his large amount of experience fronting an acapella group. ---

She’s almost forty, and IMO physically outshines bikini girl, has gorgeous doe eyes, and a very fit body. Bikini girl, on the other hand, is merely 21 and already has overtanned sun-damaged skin, beady little mole-rat eyes, and a false smile. Cara earns a minus though, for constantly displaying her catty threatened self-esteem in the presence of bikini girl. ---

I guess that’s why _The Twilight Zone_ made that episode with the pig-snout people. “Bikini Girl” is not quite pig-snout ugly to me, but she’s close. Oddly-spaced eyes, regrettable mouth construction, classic five-head, overtanned, body fine and fit but nothing spectacular. And of course the whole thing wrapped in that squicky, unappealing, panicky desperation that comes with knowing that all you have is your looks, and your looks aren’t really so great. Kara DioGuardi is striking, nearly beautiful, with much more interesting facial features and a much better body. Paula Abdul is no longer better looking than Katrina Darrell, but she most certainly _was_ fifteen years ago. ---

I don’t really dislike Tatiana, but I do feel sorry for her. She really does seem to have a hystrionic personality disorder.
