That still means they’re not sharing a life, and it still means she gets the shit end of the stick.

I didn’t realize so many people watched this show unironically, by the way.

But…Kris Allen _does_ kind of look like a monkey. He also did an awesome version of “Ain’t No Sunshine” that I don’t know why I don’t have in my iTunes at this point. I guess when you’re setting yourself up to be noticed by the general public, you sort of have to take the bad with the good - people will notice that you can sing and play guitar really well, and they’ll also notice that you look like a monkey.

There’s exactly one hundred billion levels between “watching the show unironically” and “watching the show with uncompromising hatred for every single contestant.” Try any of them.

Being there for the kid’s birth is more of a sentimental thing. It’s not like he’s going to remember it. So you wouldn’t really lose much in the grand scheme of things

Auditioning for AI, or even some random game show, could provide your family for years to come. And the guy’s a talented singer too, so I say the risk is worth it. If he gets cut next week, he might have some regrets, but the chance to make it big on Idol is nothing to sneeze at

Well, this is where I think a lot of people are kidding themselves. They act like it’s American Idol or nothing, that they can’t just, you know, work hard and get a decent job and be a perfectly happy person with a normal life and provide for their family. It’s sad that people think they either have to be on the fast track to fame and fortune OR they’re doomed. That’s rubbish. No wonder they burst into tears when they don’t make it.

I wonder if anyone has done a site like the Bush = Chimp site, only with Kris Allen.

And I’d agree that the level of snark here is MUCH less than it is at TWOP, or God forbid VFTW, who refers to the foster kid as “Little Orphan Tranny.”

We burst out laughing when they alluded to a troubled contestant coming up, and it turned out to be the guy who spent a couple of years in jail. Wahhh!

I’m disappointed Tourette’s guy washed out already. We’ve enjoyed imagining how his conversations with the judges might go.

Your wife will remember you not being there so you could be on a game show.

So could winning at the track, but I’m not going to miss the birth of my child so I can go bet on the ponies.

FTR, this isn’t about their feelings. It’s about maintaining a haflway tolerable discussion that doesn’t make a casual poster feel like he’s wondered into a middle school playground and fallen in with the mean, sulky kids.

I think we get some single performances and The Elevator Ride Up To Satan And Down To Hell.
Somewhere in there are roomfulls of people getting cut. Again, I THINK we’re getting down to the 24.

Are those quotes of mine supposed to sound contradictory? They aren’t. I do say good things about plenty of them.

Frankly, I would find a discussion thread with no snark, and nothing but happy crappy sunshine comments to be anything but tolerable.

Read the two quotes again. I guess you missed the part where you said you didn’t hate all of them, but they were all awful people.

They _are_ all awful people. Nonetheless, I say good things about plenty of them.

Why don’t you tell us what the acceptable level of snark should be, then?

I don’t expect the threads to be all sunshine and puppy dogs. I just wish they were more about the actual music than bashing the contestants’ appearance, since it is a singing competition after all. And if people want to say Kris Allen looks like a monkey, fine. But it’s when the same old unoriginal crap gets repeated every single week that it gets old. Kind of like the weekly links to the picture of Nosferatu when there was a bald contestant (can’t remember his name) a few years back. Bwa ha ha, isn’t that funny? It makes me feel like I’m in seventh grade all over again. But the consensus here seems to be, “Hey, we may be mean, but we’re not as mean as those jerks at VFTW,” so I’ll just continue to stay away.
