It appears that the Chris backlash I predicted last week has begun!

Do you know who I think is pretty? Katharine.

Do you know who I don’t think is pretty? Guys.

I totally agree that Chris bleats like a goat, **Biggirl**. In case you wanted another vote.

And for anyone who truly believes that Kellie Pickler is either dumb or innocent, while I grant that it’s not up to the highest standards of journalistic accuracy, [Vote for the Worse](http://www.votefortheworst.com/pickler.html) details assorted info/scurrilous gossip about Kelly, some of which I’d seen already, like her “I ain’t never sung in public before!” shtick as opposed to her beauty pageant experience in the form of the Miss North Carolina pageant, among others. She’s not dumb. Obnoxious, but not dumb.

</div>

I see now why Simon thinks the site is mean spirited. To “vote for the worst,” is all in good fun, but that kind of desparate muckracking is the furthest thing from journalism I’ve ever seen.

</div>

But Kellie’s entrance in the Miss North Carolina contest, or her coming in 2nd in a local TV station’s singing contest _immediately_ prior to her AI auditions, aren’t exactly muckraking – I saw references to those back during the auditions stage right after she first tried out. It really doesn’t jibe with her Little Miss Aw Shucks that she gets deeper and deeper into every week. And that’s completely ignoring the nasty gossipy stuff.

Kellie is the only one my wife and I actually _cringe_ over, week after week.

_“Look at that Pickle!!!”_

And if she isn’t “dumb”, then she’s even DUMBER. Think about that for a second.

If she has half a clue about any of this stuff, she should realize that the schtick is just that: a schtick. And we (the voting public) won’t buy it for much longer.

But setting aside the stupidity… instead let’s focus on her singing for a minute.

My wife does a great impression of her latest Patsy Cline rendition. Her “twang” is WAY over the top. It’s no longer “Southern” or “Country”.

It’s bordering on something like German with an Australian twang???

I don’t know. It’s that “heeuuooouuyyy” sound she makes. It’s fucking hilarious if you really listen to it.

He’s only pretty from the front, in two dimensions. He turns to the side and you could see that profile in any trailer window in the hill country.

Just a teeny extra tidbit…

Take “heeuuooouuyyy” and make it ONE syllable.

THAT’S what tends to drive me nuts lately about her singing.

Not this season, no. But it isn’t like it hasn’t happened before. With Carrie, for example.

But, but Jessica Simpson “made it her own” in the 21st century. 😉

Ok, I guess The Pickler will do “Redneck Woman”. Or for complete vomitousness, Martina McBride’s “Blessed”.

hijack Holy crap! In looking around at the top country songs of the past few years, I see that Tim McGraw is coming out with a version of “When the Stars Go Blue”. I knew Ryan Adams’ version and then The Corrs and U2, but now Tim McGraw?? Of course I just heard that Jon Bon Jovi/some country girl rock duet on country radio this morning so I guess anything goes! /hijack

I think country covers of other-genre songs probably do sound brand new to hard-core country fans who don’t know the original song at all.

I think Chris is doing a great job. I’d never heard the version of Walk the Line he did, so it sounded fresh and new to my ears. It doesn’t matter to me that it’s not HIS original.

I’m looking forward to next week, as usual.

Sadly, Mr Bad Example is from '91. But wouldn’t it have been cool to see Ace smarm his way through lines like:

I got a part-time job at my father’s carpet store
Laying tackless stripping and housewives by the score.

Total comedy line-up for 21st Century
Melissa can do My Humps
I agree with My Milkshake for Mandisa-- ha
Chris-- Gimme The Light (Nothing like a little reggae to break the grunge mode)
Ace-- Stacey’s Mom (Go sneer!)
Taylor-- Are You Gonna Be My Girl (is that the name of the Jet song?)
Bucky or Lisa-- Keep Me In Your Heart ('cuz one of them is going, I think. And I get my Warren Zevon)
Elliot-- Work It (Elliot, Missy Elliott-- get it? )
Who am I missing?

I didn’t even know U2 did it.

Definitely hope to see Ryan Adams in the 2000s episode. He’s a great songwriter. They could make an entire episode of his material and there’d be something for everybody.

Just to be clear, I said Ryan, not Bryan.
