The Top 7 sings songs of the cinema with “mentor” Quentin Tarantino. Gokey has another chance to sing “The Rose.” Don’t disappoint me, Danny. You know you want to do it. However, I will understand if you prefer to do “You Light Up My Life.” ---

Quentin Tarantino is as big a music geek as he is a movie geek and was the best celebrity judge they ever had. I can’t believe they’ve taken this long to bring him back. ---

I remember him well. He was one of the only celebrity “mentors” to give constructive criticism and honest feedback. He and Andrew Lloyd Webber were probably the best this show has ever had. I’m looking forward to tonight. ---

He was only there as a judge. He wasn’t working with them as a mentor at all. He said about six words per contestant. He told Fantasia she was “Fan-effing-tastic.” He told John Stevens he was “not your biggest fan.” It wasn’t like John really took that and worked with and became a better singer. I mean, QT was fine, but I think there’s a bit of myth making about his appearance on Idol. I think you’d have to go back and watch the show to know what I mean. It’s nothing against Quentin, I just think people remember a lot more than what actually happened. ---

It’s all relative. Maybe he wasn’t that great, but compared to other guest judges, he was. ---

Now, I think they’ve dropped the guest judges bit entirely in place of guest mentors. Why? Because pop stars want to be seen as nice and they can be a lot nicer as mentors than as judges. I don’t think they’ve ever had a mentor before who’s not a musician, and I don’t think Tarantino cares if he’s seen as nice, so it’ll be strange to see what he does tonight. ---

I think I’m really just saying there’s not much \*quantity \* to his previous appearance on Idol. He did fine in the 15 seconds he was given per each contestant. ---
