[Barry Gibb](http://americanidol.com) is tonight’s mentor. For some reason I’m hearing fractured renditions of _Saturday Night Fever_. I can see Blake putting his own spin on “Jive Talking”. For the girls? I honestly don’t know. I’m just hoping nobody’s going to sing “Massachusetts”… ---

Seacrest said something about it being “Boogie Songs”, so I’m not sure it’s strictly Bee Gees night (they did that one during Season Two with Robin Gibb). I’m guessing there will be a few Bee Gees songs with some other disco tunes thrown in. And someone will, invariably, sing Donna Summer. Sigh. I’m not a fan. ---

It’s not that she couldn’t sing either because she’s certainly got the pipes – I just would hate to see their work tarnished. Can you tell I’m not a LaKisha fan? _looks around_ ---

When I was 12 I was in the 10th row at the Pontiac Silverdome for their concert. Andy Gibb came out and sang “You Should Be Dancin’” with his brothers and I thought I’d died and gone to heaven. ---

Okay, some weird thoughts before the singing starts: Did anyone notice the bald guy that was looking up all moony faced at Seacrest during the intro? Did I see Judge judy in the audience? And finally, Mr. Gee sure looks a LOT different since the last tim I saw him (granted, that was probably over ten years ago). I thought I’d be unable to get Jimmy Fallon’s impersonation of him out of my head, but now, after hearing him speak, all I can think about is Darryl Hammond’s Sean Connery on Celebrity Jeapardy. What did Melinda sing? Disco sucks in general, so I hope she did a ballad from the sixties. Beat-boxin’ is just as relevant a musical talent as air guitar, AFAIAC. You did invite jive talkin’! 😃 ---

So far I’m unimpressed with tonight’s song choices. Lakisha and Melinda’s first choices were pretty ho-hum, and I’m in complete agreement with Simon and Randy’s assessment of Blake’s performance. Other than the bridge area, the beatboxing didn’t really work for him and made the song come across as pretty campy…which sucks cause I love him for his originality (his Bon Jovi remix last week was actually really good to me).
