I barely watched the show this season, but I figured the finale would be good with Simon’s last appearance. I liked Ricky Gervais’ comments. That guy is just funny. He doesn’t have to try. On the opposite end of the spectrum, you have Dane Cook. There are about 50 comedians who do the silly song schtick better, why go with this tool? Liked the guests for the most part. Hall and Oates! Michael McDonald! Janet! Joe Cocker! Bee Gees -1! Speaking of the Gibb brothers… I’m always a little sad when I see them without Maurice. But it should be noted that Robin has the worst toupee ever. Maurice was bald and proud, baby! I think AI will limp on for a few years. But it really missed something without Paula, and without Simon, I can’t imagine it working very well. Unless they get Elton John to be a judge. ---

The music for the Chicago duet with Lee was fantastic. The singing made me want to shoot people - preferably the singers. ---

Glad it’s over. I agree with those that thought this was one of the weakest fields in memory. The best two made it to the finals, and if Bowersox got her teeth fixed, she may have won. She was much better than Lee “can someone wake me up, it’s my turn to sing” DeWyze. Lee reminds me of last year’s winner. Chris Allen. Completely forgettable. I predict that unless Chris Allen is invited back for another season finale, he will virtually disappear this year. Big Mike looks like Shrek to me. I couldn’t take him seriously. I didn’t even recognize Kelly Clarkson. Her appearance has changed dramatically. I thought Reuben looked great. That Dane Cook bit seemed to go out of control… he tries too hard to be funny, and it wasn’t. Then, with all of those goofballs bouncing around and grabbing for the mike, I’m glad they cut that short. And a question for the masses. Is there a rule about having a star or an act that is NOT an Idol winner or former contestant under 40 years old? Other than Carrie Underwood and Christina Aguilera, they were pulling some corpses out of the ground. I didn’t even know Joe Cocker was still alive! I wonder what next year will be like. Many people tuned in just to hear Simon insult the singers. I can’t see anyone else being able to do that as well. ---

Looking at [this panoply of past AI winners](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnf6NcmepuY) makes Lee’s win even more egregious. I couldn’t stand Jordin or Taylor but even my two least favorites absolutely blow Lee off the stage. (Speaking of Jordin – did she not get the memo that the winners were wearing black?) So who was missing in the line of [del]shame[/del] runners-up? Was Clay there? Or my wonderful girl Melinda? ---

I saw it coming, but that doesn’t mean I have to be happy about it. Also dismayed that Paula started rambling and reminding us why she had to leave. Glad the Simon tributes didn’t get too sentimental. So soon after the Lost finale, I don’t think I could take it. Looked like that rejectee skit turned into a free-for-all – unscripted. Parade of non-winners: Blake, Elliot, Bo, Archie, Guarini, Jason Castro, possibly Jennifer Hudson. Pretty sure Clay was not there. Who else was? I don’t know about the second-place winner being better off. It was the case for Clay for a long while, and seems to be working out for Adam, **but** , a lot of people were also saying it when Bo came second to Carrie. Then there’s Guarini, Diana DeGarmo, and Katherine McPhee. Blake hung in there for a while, but then how well has Jordin done, and Archie I’m not sure about. So two runners-up out of eight have outclassed the winner. Guess it depends on who is more appreciated by 19E. ---

Also did somebody say, or try to say the F-word last night? I just heard a morning DJ on the radio here mention it, but didn’t go into details. The only moment that I can recall where it might have happened was after the Dane Cook bit where all the bad gimmicky contestants came out and the really gay guy was hogging the microphone and they cut away. But I had assumed that was just part of the bit. ---

I’m fine with the results and I say that because I didn’t even bother to vote. Yes, I prefer Crystal over Lee, but who cares? I’ve reported here before that the worst concert I’ve ever gone to was Chicago because they were embarrassingly out of tune and out of synch. I see they haven’t changed. And Lee being out of tune fit right in! I really thought that they digitally melded Janet Jackson’s voice with Michael Jackson’s on that first song because it sounded so much like him. Janet, Kelly Clarkson and Joe Cocker get the award for putting on weight. Both women should have worn a black coat or blazer so that their asses and thighs weren’t so accentuated. A little bit of lycra is okay, but skin tight ain’t right, ladies. Ricky Gervais was hysterical. “And you only take, what, 80% of their wages?” Paula embarrassed herself, both by showing up and rambling on with stupid jokes (“It’s your turn to feed him.”) then by taking the limelight away from: a) The winner; and b) Simon. Her gushing over Ellen and Kara was her taking the high road, I suppose, but a snub would have felt more genuine. Did they invite everyone back for the reunion or what? I saw Michael John and Constantine, etc. David Cook was a notable absence. Bummer that. Once again, can I spew on about how I HATE Ryan Seacrest. I think Paula is a trainwreck but it was a slap on the face that they offered him something ridiculous like $21M to stick around, while offering her a fraction of that. He has nothing to offer except his. overly. dramatic. TIMING!!! and overly familiar and disrespectful interaction with Simon. Oh, and there’s no way the show will survive without Simon. He’s the only one who lends some credibility to the show. ---

You’re wrong. TMZ published the contract details a few weeks ago. Both the winner and first runner-up are locked into a multi-record deal. The only difference is the payment, the winner gets 350K for their first album, the runner-up gets 300K. The production company also has the OPTION to sign anyone else in the top 12 to a contract, with the first album going for 200K. ---

My favourite part of the show, Crystal and Alanis [Crystal singing…] _An older version of me_ (no way she’s singing this verse) _Is she perverted like me_ (eyes widening: She IS! She IS singing this verse) _Would she go down…_ (GASP here it comes) _…with you to a theatre_ (ROTFL!!) What a howler! ---

I think they missed a golden opportunity to have Andrew Garcia sings his version of “Straight Up” with Paula Abdul coming in as a duet. Instead, we had to suffer through her nonsensical babbling. Feh. ---
