Wow, you’d think people would remember a song that went to the top 5 or so on the charts. I wasn’t even born then, and I knew MJ did Rockin Robin. I’ve been staring at the screen with my jaw on the floor ever since the judges totally went down on Adam tonight. He has performed every single song exactly the same: Starlight Express, the Andrew Lloyd Weber rock & roll musical. I hate him so much I might stop watching from here on out. I honestly can’t think of a time over the past 3 years when I’ve been on a completely different page than the judges. On top of that, something weird is going on. Simon was getting ready to say something really snide about Adam’s last performance, then pulled up short. He does the same over-the-top thing tonight, and Simon praises the guy. They must really think he’s marketable. Either that, or they’re sick of taking flack about no openly gay finalists. ---

I think they really tried to eliminate any VFTW potential this year. They made sure not to cast anybody with any sort of unapproved eccentricities or quirkiness. ---

Kara is fucking ridiculous. Everything out of her mouth tonight is completely insane. Paula’s back in drunken, half-stroke seal-clap mode, but at least some of what she’s said has made sense. This is really quite painful - these performances are to be endured, not enjoyed. If Gordon Ramsey is going to be there, why not let him scream “SHUT IT OFF!!!” ETA: so far I’ve thrown all my votes to Anoop. If they are all going to either suck or be complete tools, I’d rather watch someone likeable. I miss Norman Gentle. ---

I actually thought there were some decent performances tonight. I was reluctantly impressed with Danny Gokey - at least he wasn’t doing something inspirational. I think Scott is overrated. Kris was also more interesting than I expected. Loved Allison. Anoop and Jorge were horrible. Megan was kind of fun - I definitely didn’t hate it as much as the judges. Adam is all kinds of awesome. Loved that Paula’s incoherent teariness made him a little sniffly, too. Matt - meh. I mostly liked Alexis’s performance, but I’d like to have a word with her about wardrobe. ---

The caw-ing was dreadful, and she looked stupid, despite being very pretty and wearing a kickass pushup bra. I think this will be between Danny and Adam, and Danny will get the more conservative people’s votes, who knows who will win. Lil and Allison and the Tinkerbell girl should round it out, with I guess the dueling piano guy for Top 6. Why bother with the rest? I lurk on this board like crazy, but I MUST KNOW. \*\* Dio\*\*, why do you consider the Tinkerbell chick “the minstrel show”? I read every post and I honestly never caught an explanation from you. Is it because she sings sort of bluesy? I can go on and on about minstrel shows courtesy of some African American Theatre classes I took, and I have no idea what you are talking about. ETA: And Scott shouldn’t be on this show, and it might be all uplifting, but why can’t you tell him he’s not that great? It would be much better if he was treated like a normal person. He got a standing ovation for a mediocre performance. ---

Adam reminds me of Freddy Mercury. Except I like Freddy Mercury. He has the same overly exagerated “Rock Star” act. But with less successful results. ---

Each season there’s always a Rocker who only does well on Rock Night; a Crooner who only does well on Big Band Night; a Tuvan Throat Singer who only does well on Mongolian Night. But this year they’re all middle-of-the-road pop. ---

Why was Paula’s face that weird shade of silvery purple? Scott MacIntyre – Dull song, but he’s never had any vocal range, and the song suits that limitation as well as any. Danny Gokey – Sang PYT as if he thought it was a song by Bachman Turner Overdrive. Kris Allen – Shouldn’t a guitar be miked in some way, or plugged into something? Allison Iraheta – Reminds of the stripey-hair biker nurse of a previous season. Anoop Desai – Beat It is going to sound cheesy unless you take it all the way over the top, and he didn’t. Megan Corkrey – Rockin’ Robin was the right song choice for her. Which tells you something. Adam and Alexis are the only ones I remember positively. I’m totally disappointed that no one went for Mama-se, mama-sa, mama-coo-sa. ---

Anoop Dawg, I loves ya & all, but you sucked. Someone must have mentioned to Megan that she looks like a fool standing with her feet nailed to the floor. However, considering that performance, she might as well have stayed stationary behind the mike. She has no idea how to move on a stage. Danny has more chops than I realized. And Scott has less. Michael- doing the sensitive sitting at the edge of the stage thing just didn’t work at all. He looked hokey. Alexis is going home, and not just because she’ll get screwed by having a call-in number so different from the rest, and not just because her critiques were rushed and her numbers got cut off by everyone who Tivo’d the show. Mainly because it was a bad song and a bad performance. Adam must be a castrato.
