I voted 2, but upon reflection I should have voted 1. The odds of me or a loved one being killed in a mass shooting are not zero, but are pretty close to that. I spend next to no time worrying about it.
For a country that professes to be “the home of the brave”, we seem very easily frightened. I had a horror-movie-type spree killer come through my neighborhood and murder multiple people (google Alton Coleman) and even so it rates slightly lower on my list of worries than does a shark attack–and I live in Ohio.

I’ve worked in places were we were evacuated due to bombs (duds, thankfully). I get death threats once a year, at least.
My building is not as secure as it could be, so… yeah. I do think about a pissed off client coming to get retribution for our agency screwing up his/her life.
The countries white population is massive compared to the black population. Blacks are a small minority in comparison yet they still commit all the violence.

I don’t think that word means what you think it means.
The fact of the matter is for whatever reasons blacks are an uncivilized race of people. Just look at Africa. Blacks cannot even manage to govern themselves properly. The entire continent is a chaotic, violent, ungoverned shit hole and they run around burning their own neighborhoods down when something doesn’t go the way they think it should.

Not only was the original story covered, but the trials, convictions, and sentencing were covered in the MSM.
Only a person who pays no attention to actual news stories, getting all their “news” from racist sites that make false claims about events would be unaware of the event when it happened.

Hmm, looks like this thread may be about to take off in an entirely different direction now but what I was going to say was that it’s not really fair or valid to compare the US to other advanced countries eg in Europe. Given the geographic and population size of the US, it would be better to compare the US to the whole of Europe rather than any one country.
It’s a pretty low probability event, despite the headlines. I know a lot of folks outside of the US think it’s a wild west shooting gallery here every day, with crazy nutters constantly roaming the streets, but this is a huge country with a large population, and I don’t think it’s anything that needs to be worried about. The chances of being killed by a spree killer in the US are about the same as those of choking on a tooth pick in any given year, and, frankly, I’m more concerned with the tooth picks since I chew on them all the time.

Both things are very general, I do my best to be a safe and observant driver but sometimes shit happens. That is why they are called ‘accidents’ and not ‘on purposes’
I go to a major hospital for many medical needs [Yale New Haven] and go to a military base for several reasons, I am there at least once a week. [Sub Base New London] and travel up and down the East coast, typically as far down as Fayetteville NY [Fort Bragg] and up to Maine [Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Kittery] and range as far west as the Pennsylvania-Ohio border [Pennsic] which makes up the majority of the eastern seaboard.
I have a decent chance of getting grabbed by a serial killer [one was working Connecticut in the span of time that I have been living and visiting here here] I have a decent chance of getting targeted by someone like CSI: Las Vegas’ Rt 15 Killer, who travels as a long distance trucker who got his victims at rest areas. When I am on the road I will stop in rest areas for a nap. I am in danger of getting shot by anybody targeting people driving on and off military bases, I will frequently stop at a base to get food or items at the exchange unit, or to sleep in a parking lot if I am tired.
If I was to be scared of what is effectively a random act of violence, I would never be able to leave the house. I like traveling as much as anybody and accept the risks of getting targeted or getting into an accident, otherwise I would have a mental illness that needs treating.
Well, in sixty years the monsters under the bed haven’t gotten me, so I figure I’ll be equally lucky with these guys.
