Americans: the most generous people in the world.

And who, pray tell, is forcing you to stay in this country?

Well, if we just let everyone go who wanted to leave then we’d rapidly have a vast continent with no one here to work at the various Taco Bells and Wallstreet broker firms…and then were would be be??

Getting to work a hell of a lot faster each morning, that’s where.

That’s a good point. So, to answer your original question in light of these new facts, I’d have to go with ‘no one’. You are all free to go if you want to…it will just be me and Czarcasm on the roads from now on…

Of course. By that logic, mafia protection money is ethical.

Are you saying it isn’t?

Hmm? Hmm?

this is nonsense, the only things Americans are the most generous at giving are bombs, occupation, monetary policy oppression, ect.

The studies show that wealth travels from the poor parts of the world into the wealthy ones, especially the US, not the other way around. How do you think were living so large, are we manufacturing whatsmakoogits that are magically making the world better place or just devising better ways to con people out of their money and economic leverage?

Charity =/= robbing someone and then giving them a little back in front of cameras to look good.

This is a very well made point. I think people are perhaps taking exception to this poll because the US stereotype is one of personal financial greed and self-serving foreign policy.

Whether or not that is fair, the fact that the US is by far the wealthiest country in the world yet has an underclass, trapped into their situations, who may as well be living in the third world makes surveys like this seem absurd. The inaction taken to rectify the damage after Hurricane Katrina for instance was nothing short of outrageous and would never be allowed to happen in almost any other decent country in the world.

And major US (and to be fair many European) PLCs take huge quantities of money from poor countries to line the pockets of their shareholders as well as taking advantage of very cheap third world labour in the process.

The idea that the US is some sort of beacon of world generosity is so ridiculous it’s laughable.

America has delivered on only about 30% of the aid it promised to Haiti, to date.

Other nations (Canada, for instance) have delivered over 85%.
