We’re all relieved.

I was in the shower – how did Julianne react when she got bumped?

She started flipping out and yelling and screaming at everyone a la Veruca Salt.

Heh.

No I just kid. She really said that she’s not upset at all or something like that.

I’m about half German and fortunately I didn’t get the “likes Hasselhoff’s singing” German gene.

The top two were the right top two and I would have been happy with either of them winning. I hope Cas gets a CD out soon and if I’m ever in Vegas again, I will make a point to look up Terry. You know that a guy who loves muppets has to be okay.

It was a reasonably entertaining show, but the four ‘special guest star’ performances were all boring. The arrangement sucked the life out of ‘Red Red Wine’. The country song was incredibly bland and forgettable. The first song with the beat-boxing was also boring, and while there’s always room for Muppets, I thought the James Taylor impersonation was Terry’s weakest we’ve yet seen. And I must be getting old, because I’ve never heard of the first guy or his song, and I’ve never heard of that female country singer.

Anyway, I think the right guy won based purely on talent, but I wish Cas had won, because Terry’s going to be a big star in Vegas, Reno, Branson, Atlantic City, and the other big nightclub circuits. I’m a little worried about Cas. He’s got talent, but I don’t know if it’s very marketable, and he seems like too nice a guy to survive the rapacious weasels of the record industry. The million might have been his best shot at making money from his music. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s back on the bar circuit in a year or two. I hope I’m wrong, and I’ll buy his CD if he puts one out.

3. Cas
4. Terry

My question about Terry is, why doesn’t he just drop the puppet? All the impersonation skills he has demonstrated have been his own. Why not just deliver it straight?

It would be a lot less interesting without the puppet. “Here, watch me sing like so and so!” He can pick puppets who kind of look like the impersonatee, or at least play with it. (I do like the Ray Orbison version of the turtle.) And he can do duets this way. Plus – he’s doing it with his mouth closed!

(I just described the “What a Wonderful World” duet to my sidekick in explaining why I was so happy about a ventriloquist winning one of my dumb shows. That is an amazing bit of several different kinds of talent coming together.)

Funny that the country “star” that Julianne sang with is only three years older than Julianne. Plus I thought Julianne’s voice was much better - I’ve never heard of her, but she strikes me as the Brittney Spears of country music. I think Cas got screwed as far as the special guests were concerned. UB40? They had one hit over 20 years ago - and Lionel Ritchie? I know Cas has a thing for “Easy”, but I doubt LR was one of his musical heros. I was hoping for Cas’s real musical hero, Stevie Wonder - what, he was too busy?

The Hoff was everything I expected and more, starting with his awful tuxedo - He would have fit in perfectly at my prom back in 1988. Based on his singing, he would not have made it past the first round in this competition. And I liked the “we are the champions” from the first round losers. I’m glad they mixed in some of the earnest acts along with the rediculous acts - but where was the butt-breaker?

Overall, not a complete waste of two hours.

America’s Got Talent is the clear winner of the length of recording to time to view ratio. They are also the clear winner fo the “We _sooo_ want to be American Idol” contest. Group numbers?

Last night’s show was 2:02, and I got through it in 17 minutes. If I had to watch two hours of that tripe, I’m sure I would have to rip my eyes out.
UB40? They had one hit over 20 years ago
Actually, they’ve had several top 40 hits; “RRW” is just the one radio likes to play to death.

America got it right. Though I wouldn’t have objected too strongly if Cas had won, Terry truly deserved it. Here’s why (IMHO):

Cas is very talented and will probably get some sort of record deal out of this. But every song was pretty much the same “white reggae” genre–I didn’t see a whole lot of range in his performances. Last week’s “judges’ challenge” was just plain silly. UB40’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love With You”? I remember thinking as I watched it, “Isn’t that pretty much what he’s been doing all along?”

Terry Fator, OTOH, was truly unique. I’ve never seen anyone combine ventriloquism and impressions; and he was great at it. I look forward to seeing him in Vegas. Then again, being a big Paul Winchell fan as a kid, I have an affinity for good ventriloquists.

Agree with the Kermit/James Taylor thing, though. Not only was his Taylor a bit weak (then again, so is Taylor 😛 ), but using his “Johnny” figure (Vegas lounge singer) to do James Taylor was a bit incongruous compared with his previous performances.

Yeah, I was rooting for Cas, but I’m glad Terry will be getting out of [Corperate Gig Hell](http://www.corpentertainment.net/TerryFatorvideopage3.html). He deserves better than that.
