Amnesty International Map (francais) - USA worst human rights offender.

Can you find it on an amnesty intl site? afaict this is someone’s blog.

A few questions about the categories mentioned.

Torture and violent crimes are included together. I tend to think of torture as something committed by a government and violent crimes as something committed by individuals - two very different ideas. Are they talking about government acts, individual acts, or combining the two?

What’s an extra judicial executions? Is it a simple murder? Or are they talking about government agents killing people?

Why are there two seperate categories for death penalties and executions? Aren’t they the same thing?

The problem is that not all crimes are equal, but AI denounces them as if they are, and makes no attempt to differentiate.

Look at the above list:
–Widespread murdering women for “family honor” in Iraq
– EU embassies providing less-than-adequate diplomatic protection for human rights workers.

Both issues need to be discussed.
But not on the same page.

There is a difference between the front-page headline of a newpaper, and the inside pages with minor stories. We expect a responsible newspaper to know the difference, so why shouldnt we expect the same responsibility from Amnesty Int’l?

AI would have more credibility if they would admit that some countries are good, despite a few problems. But some countries are evil.

You didn’t mention your age. I would suspect that you are too young to remember much about the two years of Watergate and the resignation. I was in my early thirties when he resigned.

I don’t think that it’s just our outraged blog culture or even the constant exposure to “news” programs on the cable channels. I don’t think I have seen the citizens so pissed off since the Carter Administration. The country was fairly unified in being angry about the economy and oil prices. There is much that draws the country together again now.

Amnesty International has had a sterling reputation. Only those who have been criticized by it have tried to put it down. If it makes mistakes, I want to know about it. But if it is accurate and it is my country that is violating human rights, I want to know that too.

Some might prefer one website over the other. It’s all the same organization with a different focus.

After spending quite some time reviewing a variety of AI reports, I’m not at all happy, to put it mildly, about the authenticity of the map or the data set, which for all I know could have been cherry picked from God knows how many different AI reports by this blogger person matinbleu or the one who quoted from him, Stephane.

I would like this thread to be gassed by a Mod if possible.

How does one attract a Mod? hit the abuse button for someone else? It doesn’t seem polite to do that.

Apologies to everyone for this thread.

That’s done pretty frequently. Just explain clearly what it is that you’re asking.

ETA: I’ve reported this one to the GD mods for you.
