Amy Winehouse put on a polka dot dress and claimed to be “60’s throwback.” There’s just no actual innovation, or even any real indication that she’s ever listened to a Phil Specter record. The real sound comes from The Dap-Kings, who really deserve the credit for Winehouse’s success. ---

Given that Winehouse’s biggest hit to date is called “Rehab”, this is somewhat hard to argue with. Equally, when Chris Martin writes a song entitled “I’m a whiny cockface with a sadistic taste in children’s names”, the world will surely accord him the respect that is due for an opinion well earned. 😃 ---

Wikipedia doesn’t give Jimi’s U.S. singles totals that I could see, but he had four top-five albums in the U.S. These guys had short careers for sure, but they weren’t one-hit wonders. ---

If you’re going by the strictest definition of one-hit wonder and going by the hit charts, I guess you could conclude that he was a one-hit wonder, but I think for practical applications, this just isn’t true. Gawd, those Amy before/after pics are awful. I mean, I’m sure they juxtaposed the best of the lot with the worst of the lot to get the greatest effect, but _still_. The only time I’ve looked as disgusting as she does in some of those pics is when I was in intensive care. I think I had a pretty good excuse; she’s just skanky as hell.
