There’s some song from the 80’s that… I can only remember vague things from. It was a hit, I know that… and it’s a male singer for the first part… and in the chorus… and he’s talking about six years ago this girl had nothing now she has everything and he owes it all to her, but she doesn’t believe that… she worked for it all on her own.

Any ideas?

That’s my guess

I think that’s “Don’t You Want Me” by the Human
League.

“…I was working as a waitress in a cocktail bar,
that much is true”

A true Straight Dopers song, where the second verse
corrects the first verse, and for all I know provides
a link to the forum where it was discussed four months
ago…

**remisser** , questions about music, movies, etc. go in Cafe Society.

I’ll move this for you.

Although I feel stupid moving a thread that’s already answered 🙂
