I’ve had a couple interactions with celebs (of varying degrees) on Facebook, and it’s always a bit of a surprise. Not sure I could explain why it’s surprising, though; under the greasepaint, they’re still human. ---

Of my 444 followers on Twitter, 16 are confirmed. Mostly reporters (Theo Frances of the WSJ, Pedro la Costa of Business Insider) and CEO’s. My most famous Twitter follower is **Juliet Landau** , Drusilla from _Buffy_. ETA: Yes, local politicians as well. ---

I have a D list celebrity as my friend on facebook. He is a journalist who I emailed back and forth with several years ago, bouncing ideas off of him. I’m assuming he just set up his facebook to automatically add anyone in his email account. Now that I think about it, I have a few others like that. They aren’t really celebrities, but they are reasonably well known academics and authors (within their field) who I emailed a few times before they added me on facebook. ---

She’s definitely A list. She’s not Jennifer Aniston or a superstar like four or five others. This is a working actor who could get any part she wanted. She’s past the age of most actresses. ---

Wow! you people really dont get how social media works these days do you? The more friends a “celebrity” has equates to more dollars in ad revenue they can charge companies to mention products on their pages. Being an “influencer,” as it’s called, is a big part of being a celebrity these days. So that friend request from an “a lister” is really an eyeball request. Monetization, baby! mc ---

Actually, you reminded me of another one. Years ago, Slate used to do a feature where they’d have an ongoing dialog over the course of a week among various accomplished, literary type folks. One week it was three siblings, all author/columnist types. I replied to something early in the week and on Friday one of them said it was the funniest thing he’d read in years. That was very nice of him to say, and I still appreciate it. I think it was Daniel Mendelsohn, might have been Eric. ---

I don’t know how Facebook does it, but when a verified account follows me, but they are also following around 50,000 others, I figure they don’t know how it’s supposed to work. Following anything over 1000 people just makes your timeline a cacophony.
