An American Sinner; I don't watch TV

I don’t hate TV, but since the PC arrived two years ago (thanks, mom), most nights the TV isn’t on. Or I’ll turn it on for a favorite (like NYPD Blue or Law and Order) and then turn it off.

Might be different if the DirecTV schedule corresponded to what’s in TV Guide. It doesn’t. And it’s just enough of a hassle to check the programming so that I don’t bother. So I’m probably missing some good stuff.

I think I might watch the Dune miniseries on SciFi though.

I don’t watch “primetime” tv anymore. I do occasionally watch A&E or the Discovery or Learning channels, and my son watches videos now and agai, but mostly we prefer the 'net and books. Maybe 2 hrs of tv a week?

Never saw “Survivor”, Seinfeld, only saw part of one episode of Friends. Somehow, I don’t feel like I am missing much.

We also only have a 13" 14 year old tv, and no plans to upgrade.

I live in the UK, and I have not owned a TV for four years now. I can’t say I’ve really missed it–the radio is a more than adequate substitute, and I can get my news from newspapers and the Net. I do miss not being able to see what political leaders look like–somehow pictures of them, whether on paper or computer screen, just aren’t the same. I don’t think I could pick George W. out of a police lineup (insert cocaine reference here).

However, in (18) days I’m returning to the States to live. I think it’ll be different there. If nothing else I’m going to probably be watching a lot of college basketball and the NFL playoffs. Sports on “terrestrial” (ie non-cable) UK TV are coming to be non-existent, and it’ll be nice to veg out in front of the TV after all the stress I’ve been through. I don’t think it’ll last, though–I can’t stand sit-coms or dramas, so I’ll probably be only watching TV for a month before I give up again.

I really don’t care for TV either. I do the History Channel/Classic Movies/PBS and the occasional VH1 special circut.

I do like TV land, for carrying some classic shows. I watch MASH sometimes. But I have never seen SNL, Friends, Cheers, Survivor, the past year’s worth of WWTBAM, the past 8 seasons of football, have skipped gleefully Super Bowls since the early 90’s, and hate with a passion “shitcoms”.
