Does anyone want to go in on this and split the bottles? Let’s all start a JD Barrel fund and buy one!

Yup, I pooched that one. Those are the proof numbers, not the alcohol by volume numbers. Maybe I should Google up some stuff from time to time instead of relying on the ol’ memory banks.

Is “no tasting” common for distillery tours? I hear that the Anchor Brewing Co tour is half a bender in and of itself.

No, it’s pretty odd. The no tasting has less to do with hospitality and everything to do with Jack being distilled in a dry county that does not permit alcohol sales.

I think they’ve changed that recently so you can do some tasting and even purchases on distillery premises.

IIRC, we could purchase booze in the “gift shop” but couldn’t taste any? Jeez, that was a long time ago! 🙂

I’d hope so, because were I to be buying one of these barrels I’d certainly want to fly down to the distillery try it first to make sure that my barrel isn’t one that a squirrel managed to fall into first or something. 😛

Speaking of lifetime supplies, there’s an old story about W.C. Fields that I heard. I’m not sure if it’s true, but I always liked it. It seems Groucho Marx was at Fields’ house one day, and they went up to his attic. There, stacked high to the ceiling on a pallet, were an untold number of cases of whiskey. And Fields turns to Groucho and says, “this ought to last me for twenty years.” Talk about long term planning!

A spigot on it would make it convienent for me. As for you other people, get your own damn sauce. I’ll be on the floor.🙂

Places that make hard alcohol may be different, although I’ve found that winery tours usually charge a decent chunk of change for their tastings. Anchor is definitely generous; I’ve sat at their bar drinking their free beer and talking with the tour guide and other visitors for an hour or more after the tour.

I added it to my Christmas wish list. Then showed the list to Razorette. She may stop laughing sometime before Thanksgiving. But I can still dream. And will. Mmmmmmm, Jack Danielsssss!

Oh, yeah, and I don’t need friends to help me dispose of a lifetime supply of Jack. I got it handled, believe me. It may be a short life, but the supply would be gone.

If I had those bottles, I’m going to guess that it would work out to between 10 and 15 year supply for me, basing that on the fact that I’m not going to be drinking anything else during that time frame.

Seconded. Not the same thing but the [Ambassador](http://www.makersmark.com/home.siv) club is fun. I named my barrel.

Huh; I’ve gone wine tasting in Calaveras & Santa Barbara counties, and most were $10, if not free. I think one might’ve been $15. All these included at least 4 wines, and while not full glasses, they were respectably-sized pours.
