Fascinating post,
French: One can easily say “close the lights” (fermer les lumières), “open the lights” (ouvrir les lumières) would be understood but uncommon. I would be curious to have feedback from other language groups (even though it’s completely meaningless).
Architecture: An architect certainly uses “doors” to open spaces, or to close them, experience tells me that it is a mindset.
Electronics: A gate is defined by its state as a rest open or rest closed element so both in this discussion.
