> Why would anyone in the history of the human race ask something like this? That is a very sick, demented, abusive, and predatory question.

Actually, what’s sick is you basically comparing your daughter’s ashes to a designer purse. What on earth were thinking? Defending the love of LCD televisions and purses with this sad anecdote? Yeesh.

I think **Shagnasty** was merely trying to explain how inanimate objects can mean way more than they seem to. While clearly my purse bears nowhere near the same weight as his bear, they are both nonetheless things. His example is just exponentially more meaningful.

Yeah, crazily exponentially. The “sentimental value” you have for your purse or **Boyo Jim** has for his big screen is all about how awesome it is to own. A reminder that some items have true sentimental value because of special memories becoming attached to them is a reasonable rebuttal, but **Shagnasty** came out screaming like Boyo had personally attacked him. To me, it really just felt like weird place and manner in which to share that little anecdote.

Funny, **Thalia** , when I read the title of your thread I immediately thought of my own beloved purse…also a Coach, which was a birthday present from my boyfriend this past summer.

I physically winced when I read your post.

Call me silly or dramatic or shallow, but nobody (other than my parents) has ever given me such a nice gift before and it means a lot to me. Not just because it’s lovely but because of who gave it to me. I would be heartbroken if somebody ran out of a restaurant with it! Not to mention all the stuff inside!

And I, too, have my SS in my purse. I’ve had employers request a copy of it, so I would assume getting a new actual card is rather important…but as to why I don’t leave it at home somewhere safe…
