On a similar note, I recently (couple months ago) had my darwin fish taken off my car and broken as well. Not only that, but the scratched “Hellbound Scumbag” in big letters into my trunk. It was just a one time thing though, and I never did find out who did it. ---

Another thought: if and when you catch the guy, can you have the incident classified as a “hate crime”? After all, if your Darwin Fish was a cross or a Star of David or whatever, that’d definitly fit – so why not for atheists? Betcha the penalties for a hate crime are higher than for mere vandalism, too… 😉 ---

I wonder if one could be charged as commiting a hate crime for this. Think: if those had been any other symbols–a star of David, for example–there would be no question. A pile of broken “Jesus fish” would convey a similar message. So shouldn’t athiests, or at least those who believe in evolution over creationism, be similarly protected from malicious mischief? Just for the record, I doubt anything worse than vandalism would be filed in the case of the OP. But it does kinda make you wonder if there’s not a double standard at work. ---

Am I the only one who thinks the vandalism may have nothing to do with religious beliefs??? That this puke would ripped off your sticker no matter _what_ it said? That he/she would have ripped off the ‘Jesus’ fish, too? ---

I kind of suspect they were offended by the Darwin Fish specifically. But - you never know. Someone deliberately scratched off my Wyoming bumper sticker off of my car. I guess they had deep philisophical objections to the State of Wyoming. (Or maybe they never got to travel anywhere, and were resentful that I obviously do like to travel!) ---

Frankly (and I realise that this is _not_ going to be a popular opinion) if you attach anything “zany”, “amusing” or – and this above all – “clever” to the back of your car you deserve everything you get. Whether it be atheist, Christian or the Church of Fucking Bungo the Wonder Hog. Amusing slogans, adverts and pop culture references. They’re _all_ styleless, stupid, cringy and aesthetically bankrupt. But hey - that’s just my opinion. Shine on you crazy stickerpeople. pan ---

_sniff_ You guys are _beautiful_. I’ve given serious thought to the videotape idea… Are there any nine-hour videotapes? If not, I’m going to have sit in my tree for an entire day. Tomorrow morning I’m going to go to my favorite comic book shops to buy a bunch of Darwins- one’ll be going on the truck every day the jerkoff tears the previous off. I refuse to bow to the will of my Bible-Belt Oppressor! :rolleyes: I just hope they have some of the [Science Fish](http://www.evolvefish.com/fish/media/science.gif)- that one was my favorite, and the one I’ll miss the most. They’re also rather hard to find. I seriously doubt if I can get them in the razor-sharpened variety… but how hard would it be, do you suppose, to coat it in a mixture of DMSO and cobra venom? I think I saw that on a detective show once. 🙂 … and, now that I think about it, doing so would make my sig just that more appropriate. 😃 Oh, and those t-shirts, **OpalCat**? I’d be proud. Feel free. I’ve heard the phrase bandied about on alt.atheism, but to my knowledge, nobody’s copywrited it. Hell, _I’d_ wear it! ---

Would I say that people who adorn _their_ vehicles with (what in my opinion are) silly items deserve to have them removed and/or destroyed without their permission? No, I wouldn’t. Frankly, I don’t see how any reasonable person can justify the behavior of the criminal in this case. ---

I don’t understand the leap of logic that suggests it’s not some teenage twit vandalizing cars. Based on the facts of the OP, I frankly am not sure what “Christianity” has to do with the actions of this individual. Wasn’t there a thread a few days back about the vegan (or vegetarian) nut jobs in NY starving their kid? Many posters wondered why the focus was on the “vegan/vegetarian” aspect of the story, instead of the stupidity of the actions.
