# An Open Letter to YouTube

Dear Youtube,
It’s me. One of your millions and millions of subscribers. I very much enjoy you and understand you have a business to run, and that involves selling ad space. It’s not that you carry ads, or even the ads themselves that I have a problem with…it’s their length.
I, like many of the people in the world that I watch through hidden cameras in their shower, tend to listen to music in the shower. But when I am trying to listen to my playlist and after only ONE song you end up showing a 5 minute ad, well you’ve taken away about 3/4 of my shower. When I’m listening at work I can easily skip them…but this whole wasting 5 min of my time listen to some stupid mini-doc about the dangers of worms in our dirt really annoys me.
Please change this so that I can shower like I used to

Or, you know, Rhapsody, Pandora, Soundcloud, Spotify, iHeartRadio, Last.fm, Slacker, iTunes, Google Play Music…
I know using YouTube for song playlists is a thing, and I know that there are even apps and sites that help make the thing easier, but I can’t help but feel Google won’t mind if the door hits you on the way to one of those other services that’s actually designed to do what you want.

Yes, but YouTube has been making changes to promote listening to music. If they’re going to do that, they need to also do a better job of implementing mobile background play, easy playlist generation, and toned down ad frequency. If they want to compete with Pandora and the like.
It’s not like the OP is jury-rigging YouTube to do something it’s not meant to do. Google themselves are trying to get people to do exactly what the OP is doing (except perhaps the shower part).

I should also mention that even though I put “music” I more often have on videos that I listen to the audio on that I can’t get by other means. Music at work, videos at home.
Nothing makes a shower entertaining than listening to Dragon Ball Z Abridged episode-by-episode

I hear, way back in the day, they had these things called ‘radios’ that you could set to a ‘station’ and it would play music. I think some of them might still exist.

Yes, iTunes has ‘radios’. Click on International Music, and there are over 500 ‘radios’ of just World music! Or chose Country Christian. It might not have that. But, there are plenty to chose from.

I take my laptop into the bathroom, but not into the shower.
I listen to the videos, hear the sound effects and laugh at the jokes. I’ve seen all of the videos before and I know what happens, but they still crack me up and I like that I can listen to them while I’m in the shower, but I don’t enjoy listening to a 10 min episode, then listen to 5 and a half minutes of commercial, then it’s time to get out of the shower.
Also I clearly masturbated BEFORE the shower, hence why I need it

I assume Add-block blocks them. I’ve never seen a YouTube advertisement in my life.
