I’ve discovered the stats program allows customizable “weights” to how it applies kills to the skill rating based on the weapon used to make the kill. This allows you to make a kill made by, say, a knife, worth 4x an AK kill in terms of the “skill” number you get on the stats page. Currently, all kills, knife, pistol, AWP, whatever, are ranked the same. I want to change that. I am personally very biased against sniper rifles - it’s easy to rack up a remarkable kill to death ratio with them, and therefore the top ranked players on our server will be snipers. I don’t want that. Anyway, the number is a multiplier. 1.0 is the default skill gained from a kill. 1.5 would give 50% more skill for a kill. Here’s my initial proposal, I’m open to suggestions: All pistols are given 2.0 by default, except the 5-7 which is given 2.2 because I find it particularly weak, and the deagle was given 1.9 because it’s slightly better than other pistols, arguably. AK-47/M-16 were the base line, given a value of 1.0 Sniper rifles were crippled - AWP, the worst offender in my book, gets a 0.4 multiplier. The auto snipers, which take at least some better aiming skill to get one shot kills, are slightly better with 0.5. The scout is given full credit, at 1.0, because it takes a decent amount of skill to use the scout. The weak SMGs, tmp, mac 10, were given 1.8, because it’s pretty difficult to kill with them I think. The stronger SMGs are even at 1.3. The pump shotty is 1.5, and the auto is 1.0. Beefy, define “afternoon”, for those of us who aren’t in the same time zone as you! As to the stats weighting - I find it much easier to rack up a kill with the mp5 than, say, the steyr (aug?). Ditto the shotty (at least at close range). However, to put it in perspective, there’s no doubt I am an awful, awful player. Good players might find your weightings to be more accurate. Meanwhile, I don’t think the AK and the M16 are equivalent. I find it much easier to kill with the AK (I _think_ that’s the one - the first one in the list on the Terrorist rifle menu). It’s a shame the “hitbox” function doesn’t seem to work, in terms of the stats software. I’d really like to see where most of my shots are landing. For all I know, I’m hitting thin air, for all the damage I seem to do to targets. Sometimes I swear I’ve landed four shots in someone’s torso, but only one actually registers. And then they hit me once with a peashooter and I’m dead ☹ And yes, I’ll be up for a game today. Provided our Sunday afternoon visitors have left by then LOL 😃 Max. ---

On thing that drives me nuts is when I unload half a clip into someone and then the guy behind me gets the kill with one bullet. Is there a way that some of us can have admin rights on the server? We need to set rules of no porn sprays and boot idiots that use them. Not to mention the asswipes with aimbots. The game is not too much fun with the crap that is going on right now. ---

We do seem to be getting a lot of dweebs on there. I don’t know about the aimbots but the awp campers sure are annoying…not much one can do about that though. I agree that we could do without the porn sprays and and a lot of the other crap some of these guys are doing. Oh yeah, I think I was a bit premature on the getting better thing (myself, I mean) 🙂 ---

I hope that I can maybe I can work myself up to 50% there. Any kills I got on **SenorBeef** ’s server were pure luck. Lots of spray and pray. I don’t have CZ, so that option is out. ---

I’ve been doing this myself and it has helped a lot. **D\_Odds** , CZ isn’t all that expensive (hey, we can get it here for $20 AUS, so it must be cheap in the US, right?) and is well worth it for practice. Also, it helps you learn the maps, which itself is a very useful thing! Unfortunately, differences in time zones mean I really can only play with other dopers on weekends ☹ Aussie servers are cool, although sometimes you come across some real yutzes! I’ve learnt not to feel pissed off about having to go to another server to avoid dickheads. Cheers, Max AKA Cannon fodder - got lube? 😉 ---

The CF being cannon fodder. I wasn’t trying to imply anything about your CS skillz. **D\_Odds** , when I get home I’ll post the name of the server that I like. Also, if you bought HL:2 you should be able to access all of back catalog, including CS:CZ. I only have it from buying HL2. ---

I only skimmed through the four pages of previous posts and I had some questions: is there a 24/7 dedicated SDMB server yet? Or are they just more of a weekend thing? Do we want one? I have a spare AMD2100/512/ and Cox cable if we did. Also do you guys always wear your [1920sDR][SDMB] tags? I’m in VA and I play every night, I have yet to run into a doper. ---

Not to be a bastard, but I’m really not a fan of the weighting system. I dislike the AWP and it ruins the flow of some maps. Restrict it. No one get to use it. Period. As to the other weapons, I think it’s really up to how you use it. I like the pump shotty when I’m turning that corner in the tunnels on Dust. I like the AK for long range sniping like on the “long A” on Dust2. Submachiners give you nice quick movement speed and also save money. Consider: (Except of course for the first round) Most people get there pistol kills as a frantic “Q-switch” from the primary when its out of ammo in a heated firefight. OK some people do roll with the deagle, but it’s still just as much a secondary. Different guns are easier/harder for some than others. A player by the name of **Modo** is a wizard with the Mac10. When I play, I’m really focused on winning the round. This is a really crucial distinction. Yeah, I like to get kills and NOT die, but I want my team to win. Not everyone is like this – especially the awp whores. Do you think some random pubbie is going to care about the weight to his skill rating on some random server? No. An AWP still gets him a kill and still takes out a player on your team making your team closer to losing the round. A kill is a kill. I know this is kinda a moot point since the weighting system doesn’t work, but I just wanted to register my thoughts. There’s already a sort of in-built weighting system in the form of money. Very often you’ve got to decide: buy the m4 with no armor, or buy a SMG but afford the kevlar. That is strategy. I guess it boils down to the fact that there aren’t any guns that piss my off other than the AWP.
